Bananabro is a welcome addition to the dining scene, offering a franchise restaurant that serves banana leaf rice in a mall setting. Previously, one had to search for specific restaurants to enjoy this dish. Located in Berjaya Times Square, Bananabro can be a bit challenging to find, as it is situated on the LG floor, on the eastern side and at the end of it. Despite its somewhat hidden location, the restaurant is quite popular, as evidenced by the number of occupied tables during our visit.
The establishment is spacious, with ample seating for large groups. A set of banana leaf rice costs around RM 12.90 and includes unlimited refills, making it an excellent value for money. It's important to note that banana leaf rice is usually vegetarian (except for the gravy/curry requested for the rice), so those desiring protein will need to order it separately. However, even without added protein, the dish is quite filling due to the generous amount of veggies served.
While there are better banana leaf rice options available, Bananabro's version is still delicious, especially considering the price and mall location. The vegetables are satisfying, and the fried bitter gourd is full of spices without being bitter. We also ordered a small plate of butter chicken for RM 9.90, which featured around 8-10 chunks of chicken in a savory and sweet butter curry that complemented the banana leaf rice set perfectly.
The Teh Tarik we tried was sweet and enjoyable, though nothing extraordinary. Bananabro's ambiance attempts to emulate a traditional South Indian restaurant while offering a comfortable and somewhat private dining experience. The restaurant consistently remained half occupied during our visit, attesting to its popularity.
Unfortunately, some menu items and drinks, such as rasam and mustard yogurt, were unavailable at the time. However, the overall dining experience was still fantastic. We would definitely return to Bananabro, and highly recommend it to those seeking a satisfying, budget-friendly meal. With options like Bananabro, you are no longer limited to mamak, mixed rice stalls, or food courts for a...

Read moreI went to BTS outlet on 1/10/2025 Dinner timing around 7pm - 8pm. Worst experience ever at Banana Bro Berjaya Times Square, and I really need to share this because it was just beyond disappointing.
Service: There were plenty of staff around, but honestly they were completely non-functional. My table asked 2–3 times for kuah refill, staff only replied “ok” or “boleh” but nobody ever came. We ended up eating dry rice with no kuah at all. The service was unbelievably slow even though the restaurant was not busy. Customers raised hands to call, but staff were not alert, not attentive, and looked like they didn’t even care.
Hygiene: This part was shocking. The hand wash area had no soap at all, the bottle was just filled with water. Staff were seen adjusting their pants right at the zipper area in front of customers, then went straight to serving food without washing hands. Absolutely disgusting. Tables beside us were left dirty from the time we arrived until we finished eating, and no one bothered to clean them up. Aprons didn’t look clean either. Hygiene standards here = non-existent.
Food: Honestly, the food experience was ruined. Dry rice, no kuah refill despite asking several times. What’s the point of banana leaf rice if there’s no kuah? It was the most disappointing meal I’ve had in a very long time.
Staff Attitude: Staff were rude, noisy, and even arguing with each other in front of customers. They looked lost, untrained, and uninterested in doing their job. Instead of focusing on customers, they were busy chatting or simply ignoring requests.
Overall: Food = Fail. Service = Fail. Hygiene = Fail. Staff attitude = Fail.
Banana Bro as a brand might be known elsewhere, but this outlet at Berjaya Times Square completely ruins it. Honestly the worst dining experience of my life and I would never recommend anyone to come here unless management takes...
