A different kind of date night.

I feel like I have a different outlook on this, if the owner intended it or not; ill never know.

I see Ur-Mu as a new era of culture and experience, that can come from anywhere. In the days of giant shopping malls, trendy cafes and unorthodox fusion foods; a new normal begins to take shape.

I see this as a sanctuary, away from the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur; especially born and raised here I know a thing or two about how busy KL can get. This little gem creates a safe space, an abode hidden away; a transitory space.

I came with my partner for a visit last week, and although I'll admit I am just recently beginning to appreciate art; this visit was an important one. It was an insightful and whimsical experience; seeing a private collection from someone who just wanted to share and give back to the community. No underlying propaganda or hidden agenda fabricated by large corporations and governments.

The intricate detailing of the whole place was a lovely sight, how everything is tied together; coming hand in hand in a symbiotic relationship was a treat for the senses.

This is my short take on this little museum, always worth a visit for anyone who hasn't seen it yet; and the only concern I have is that it the whole experience ended too soon.

I believe this is a lovely example of how in these modern, changing times; something unique comes up. A missing puzzle piece of Kuala Lumpur and has begun to pave the way for the new. A way to show Malaysians that the arts and architecture is still alive, and it's the beginning of a new era.

Normalisation...

Visited this art museum tucked away in Bukit Bintang over the weekend. For RM10 per ticket, it is well worth the admission price, especially if you enjoy taking in art within a quiet and well organized space. It's 5 floors, with each floor hosting two 'gallery' spaces - we spent about two hours going through it all (and sitting around).

The themes of each gallery space are well curated, and the art mediums on display range from sculptures (both large and small) to decals to illustrations and traditional art. The museum itself is well maintained, with the architectural structure of the building enhancing the viewing experience as you wind your way towards the top. The layout of the art is also excellent as well - nothing feels too cramped or spaced out, and there is a deliberation to how the art is arranged in each room.

Accessibility is quite good, as there is a lift that goes all the way from the bottom to the top floor (though the corridors between the art spaces may be a little narrow). There is seating around as well if you need a brief rest. Even though it was a weekend, the museum wasn't packed and was quiet, allowing for peaceful movement and rumination throughout the building. The museum limits the number of visitor slots per session/day, so it never gets too crowded.

The only nit-picky issue is that tickets must be bought online prior to entry (I've heard that you cannot purchase them on-site, but there are staff at the entrance who might be able to assist with that).

Overall, I would recommend a visit here if you're...

I went to this gallery expecting to appreciate the artworks. But it turned out I actually enjoyed it!

I was so inspired by the creativity, imagination, and intricate work put into each piece.

I booked my ticket on the website without a hitch about half an hour prior. It was quite easy to navigate the place from Pavilion with Google Maps. But if you're not sure how to get there, I suggest you look up for the closest MRT station exits or parking lots on their website.

Upon arriving, I was greeted warmly with a little briefing about the dos and don'ts in the gallery.

I thought I was only going to be there for about thirty minutes since it's not a massive place. But I ended up spending about an hour and a half because I couldn't stop admiring each piece.

The techniques various artists applied astonished me, and the messages conveyed through their art are empowering or simply whimsical. The photos don't do it justice. You need to be there to truly soak everything in.

The gallery has 5 floors with different themes on each level. There's also a very clean toilet on each floor.

All in all, it was such a great experience. Highly recommend especially to those who appreciate contemporary art and embrace...
