If you’re craving a Thai culinary experience, this restaurant in Danau Kota offers a mix of hits and misses that might still tempt you to try it out.
Food The menu boasts a variety of dishes, but the "authentic" label doesn't quite stick across the board. While some dishes like the Pad Thai (generous portion with prawns) and Miang Kham (a rarity locally but wonderfully executed although the sauce is not authentic) shine through, others leave much to be desired. The Daging Harimau Menangis felt bland, the Pad Kra Pao lacked of basil, and the noodle broth tasted reused and old. A standout dish was the Thai Watermelon Salad, where the sauce blend of fish sauce, chili, and garlic was delightful—though the watermelon itself was bland and unripe. Mixed results make this a place where your enjoyment might depend on your dish selection. For the food highlights alone, it’s worth a try, but perhaps not a go-to for authentic Thai cuisine purists.
Service The service is inconsistent but generally pleasant. On some visits, the staff are quick to take orders, but on others, even with just two or three occupied tables, the wait is long. Food arrives relatively quickly (around 10 minutes after ordering), and the staff are friendly and accommodating.
Atmosphere The restaurant struggles with its ambiance. It gets packed and noisy during peak hours (7–9 PM), with tables crammed together. Some parts of the restaurant are hot and steamy, adding to the discomfort. Cleanliness varies, with the floor occasionally sticky or dirty, and smoke from outside sometimes wafting into the dining area.
Price The prices are on the higher side, which might be justified if Setapak is considered part of the broader KL area. However, the value feels inconsistent. While some dishes are worth the splurge, the drinks—especially the Thai tea and mineral water—feel overpriced compared to the quality.
Payment Payment methods are flexible and convenient, with options for cash, QR, and card payments, making it easy to settle your bill...
Read more1st of all, i would like to disclaim that we never have the intention to dine at this place in the 1st place. As Mali's line was abysmal, my husband ventured further in to find a less crowded place to have our dinner. There Bangkok was, sitting on multiple parking lots with one anchor shop inside.
As there was only 1 empty table left, we were left with no option to sat there even though tha table has sunk in the middle like a deflated cake. My husband complained a couple of time to the waiters there but one of them just waived it non chalantly by saying "selalu x macam ni meja ni" like it just sunk in on its own, right when we arrived. No one take the initiative to change the table to a better one.
We immediately ordered as we sat as all of us were hungry but to our dismay, our food only arrived 45 minutes later after i told one waitress that i had enough of waiting and cancelling the order.
My husband complained on how to eat with a sunken table to one of its waitress again but only after we were half way through our meal they came with another table. My husband rejected it as he doesn't want to stop eating again and let his food gets cold.
As per the food, all were edible only but nothing special, nothing scream delicious in any way. My husband's rice was served in a rusted edge metal plate. Nothing worth to go through the same experience again for RM80 FOR STREET FOOD!
Cleanliness also was not that good, tissues were strewns everywhere. All of all, we dont recommend to this shop until they do some major upgrade on the quality of their customer service and food. I don't blame the employees as much as the owner is the one who should be responsible to make sure everything is in order. Happy employees means...
Read moreI drove all the way from PJ just to get a very disappointed dinner. First of all, the place is quite nice itself. I ordered Set Tom Yum fried rice with Thai iced milk tea. Fried rice came very fast but the dish is cold, like it's been fried and put there for quite some time. I also got order Black Coffee, it's tasteless. Like put too much water. I waited a while but Thai iced milk tea no come so i call for the waiter. I told him my milk tea haven't come. Then he ask me, what is the size of the tea. I ask him back, it comes with the set, shouldn't u know better? Then he bring me Thai Iced Green Tea. I said i order thai milk tea, not green tea. He insisted that this is the correct drink. I ask him to call for manager, a lady staff came with a black face. I explained to her the situation, she took the wrong drink away with the same black face and not even a word "sorry". At this moment, my mood is already affected. Then my last dish which is Yam Mama, i waited for half an hour but didn't come. I call for another waiter. He went to kitchen and check, then he told me wait 5 more minutes. I know they forgotten to do it, which i told him to just cancel it and refund. He said okok but 5 minutes later he still bring the Yam Mama to me. I said i told u to cancel right? Which he answer me, "tsk, aiya this only 5 minutes to do mah" So i reply him back, if it's really 5 minutes, why initially i need to wait for half an hour? Meaning u guys forgotten my order! I finished my fried rice already and yam mama still not yet served? A word of apology also i didn't hear from him. Seriously very very bad service. Spoil my mood and my dinner! All the staff treats u like u owe them money. Do they even know what is...
