Came here to celebrate my partner’s birthday. We had an incredible omakase dinner here. We ordered the sushi full course which was RM480++ (price excludes drinks). We regretted not getting the name of our chef, but he’s the only one from Japan from what we can observe, and was incredibly friendly and attentive. He explained every item to us, and gave us interesting tidbits of knowledge here and there. Shout out to him!
Every single item served to us was meticulously prepared and top notch in terms of quality and portion. You can even opt for less/more rice if you’d like but their standard serving was really generous (let the pics speak for themselves), you’re guaranteed to be full after.
We really appreciated the extra touches like our chef greeting us by our names when we first sat down, providing a mobile phone stand for each customer, showing pictures of what type of seafood we were consuming (laminated printouts of pictures of these fish, there was even one with a Japan map to show which part of Japan the seafood was sourced from), helping us take pictures without us asking, and even gifting us a printout of our photo, well decorated and in a custom-made envelope! If you’re a girl celebrating your birthday here, you’d get a rose from them as well. These extra touches cost very little but add so much to the entire experience and we were so impressed by them.
Lastly, they do ask about your dietary restrictions so there’s some flexibility there too. Make a reservation beforehand and make sure you get counter seats so you can see all the food preparation action happen right in front of you. They have two seatings for dinner, the first one starts at 6pm, second starts around 8+pm. They are also open for lunch.
Thank you Hanaya for an incredible night. It will definitely not be...
Read moreI would normally stick to traditional style Omakase so the thought of a different style seen in Hanaya makes me quite skeptical. There is an emphasis of mixing/Hybrid of different seafood section flavor within a Sushi or a spoon dish which I am not sure would turn out good for my traditional taste bud. So on Sunday I decided to just order Ala Carte Hanaya Sushi Set and try . Very generous portion of Sushi and I was quite impressed. Service was impeccable as well.
Today on my last night in KL, I decided to give this interesting Omakase offering a try and the MASTER serving me was Ching Wei. While it initially appear quite radical to stack an Otoro with tofu and some fermented beans or a permutation of other hybrid style sushi, I was pleasantly surprised that the combination turn out to be an explosion of good flavor and texture in my mouth!
Tip- Take those Sushi and Spoon fish in a single mouth. Please try not to dissect and eat it is section. That's not how to eat Sushi especially one prepared so well. Also don't put extra soy sauce. Have a few piece pickled ginger between each dish to reset the taste bud.
MASTER took time to explain the ingredient going into each dishes including the origin. At the end of the meal permission was asked to take a photo of me for record which I gladly obliged. Later I was given a print out of my photo back with a Thanks You message in a nice Japanese designed enveloped by Master Ching Wei. I was impressed .
I had a very memorable dining experience and would like to congratulate Ching Wei and the rest of the team for this fine Jap culinary expérience. Keep up the good work and I'll be back again each time on a...
Read moreI agree with the poster below "Ning" that the reservation "system/SOP" is flawed and the person who answered the phone was rude. I had the same experience.
When calling in for reservation the Filipino waitress was not really friendly on the line.
When i reached on the day and had some questions on the menu, i was asking about the difference between the 2 sushi set which is priced same. A Filipino waitress that was taking my order rudely/impatiently just replied "less items". Without any proper explanation, was it the difference in fish items? was it seasonal items? All i got was a rude answer. Not a good start.
After ordering i was letting the same waitress know of my allergy of shell fish and pointed to the picture on the menu as an example, again rude she replied "we don't serve this". I asked because usually Japanese sushi is seasonal so i wanted to make sure. Her reply again "this is EXPENSIVE item, we don't serve you expensive items!" Ok....so she is telling the customer Hanaya only serves customer "CHEAP" items? Is that it? Lucky the Sushi was great and fish fresh and delicious. But this Filipino waitress was really rude and spoiled my experience dining in Hanaya!
I hope this gets looked at, as i feel Hanaya is a great restaurant and the quality of food served is top notch, but i hope said waitress wont be the person serving me the next time i am there. Unfortunately i did not get to see her name.
Food is 5-star, but the experience has left me with a sour taste and...
