Was there on 31 Oct 2024 for lunch. Started queuing at 11.43am & waited 53mins to get a seat. It was just me and my husband so they let us in before the group of 4 in front of us (they waited over an hour).
Ordered x1 spicy egg fried rice with egg, x1 non-spicy egg fried rice with egg & garlic shrimps, and x1 aunty Helen's gyozas. Wanted to try some other stuff but they were already sold out so early.
Many people complained that the food took forever to come but my spicy fried rice came within minutes of us ordering. Unfortunately, it was barely warm & we overheard the table behind us complaining to the waiter that they were there much earlier, had ordered yet didn't get their food while we got ours within minutes. Maybe they served me someone else's order that coincidentally happened to be the same as mine? I did like the spiciness, could be a tad spicier but was good. The rice, albeit, was a bit tough and tasted like it had been dosed with MSG. Would have been better if it was hot.
The gyoza didn't take long to come too. We love it; it was one of the highlights for us. A big part because it was HOT like it came right outta the pan. It was juicy and the filling was ample.
However, the last dish, the non-spicy fried rice, took quite awhile to come. We had already finished the gyozas and were eating the 1st plate of fried rice painfully slow to wait for the last dish. It arrived but was lukewarm at best as well. On top of that, they missed out on the garlic shrimps we ordered. When we informed the waiter, there was no apology etc; instead they took the dish to the kitchen, another guy (maybe a more senior in position guy) came out and questioned if my 1st dish had the shrimps (insinuating that i ate them & was trying to comp free shrimps??? Like wtf, come on). In the end, he went back in and came out with the same plate but with the shrimps on them. We also overheard some dishes being sent back because the orders were wrong and/or items were missed out. The garlic shrimps were thankfully the saving grace; they were huge, fresh, and had the right amount of garlic so it wasn't overpowering nor underwhelming.
In the pics, you can see some tables empty. They were quick to clean up when customers left and prep the tables, but very slow to fill the tables with people, hence the queue was slow-moving. We spent quite some time staring at the empty tables when we were outside queueing while the waiters ran around gesturing for one another, but no one let people in to sit. Maybe it's their policy??
In a nutshell, not worth the 53mins wait and not worth being questioned when they were the ones who messed up the order. Ok to try if there's no queue but quite unlikely due to the hype.
The damage for 2 pax was RM99.75. Not worth the quantity nor the quality and especially not the time...
Read moreIf you're a fan of Uncle Roger's and would like to drop by to try out the Egg Fried Rice, by all means do so but chances of you becoming a returning customer is highly unlikely.
I'm not going to speak about the pricing as we all know it's in Pavilion Elite and the rental must be one of the craziest so I'll leave that as is.
However, first off the service staff firstly didn't have an SOP to when you scan the QR code to place your order and once it's placed you'd usually receive a receipt that they'll place on your table for their reference. However, this was not done until like mid-way through my meal and because of this way of service I was served the wrong thing.
Would you believe that when I said I received the exact same order of Egg Fried Rice, instead of 1 x Egg Fried Rice & 1 x Special Fried Rice, the staff told me that it's what I ordered until I told her that this isn't correct based on the colour and also it looks exactly identical and smells identical to the other one. Product knowledge of the few items you have in your menu should really be top priority.
Now, the wait time is a little longer than I would have liked it to be especially for just fried rice, but yes people will say that they're understaffed and that they're working on improving. However, I just don't see it being worth waiting for. Also, I think this is the tactic that they're using as when you're that hungry you'll just eat anything at that point.
Finally getting to the point of the fried rice, I came here to try it out just because I felt like as a person who watches his content I would like to see what the hype is all about. And well.... This would be the first time in a long time that I have entered a restaurant and left more depressed than ever. I don't think ever in my life have I had to forcefully swallow food which made me think that I was forcing myself to finish it.
The Egg Fried Rice, barely had any flavour of wok hei, or anything which leads me to think that the "King of Flavour" must've been left out of this meal because truth be told I really did not enjoy this fried rice at all. The rice was harder than usual but if you'd like to have a more defined jawline you can definitely eat two plates of this and come out feeling sore as it really gets your muscle worked up.
Anyways, I understand the hype behind it, but maybe just maybe somethings are better left on YouTube than to be made a reality of it.
Would I recommend it? Sure, go try it and let me know if it's really worth it or would it just be a one time thing for...
