A Memorable Christmas Holiday Stay at The Journal Kuala Lumpur Hotel
From December 21st to 25th, 2024, this is our first time stay at thie place. My family and I enjoyed a wonderful stay at The Journal Kuala Lumpur Hotel. This boutique hotel, nestled amidst the vibrant Bukit Bintang district, offers a unique blend of modern comfort and traditional charm.
Location, Location, Location: The hotel's prime location was a major highlight. We were within walking distance of numerous restaurants, cafes, and shopping centers, including the iconic Bukit Bintang shopping district and Jalan Alor. The proximity to public transportation – LRT, MRT, and buses – made exploring the city incredibly convenient.
Warm Hospitality: From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly and attentive staff. The receptionists were multilingual and incredibly helpful, while the security guards were always ready with a smile and assistance with our luggage. Even the restaurant staff were efficient and ensured a pleasant breakfast experience each morning.
A Touch of Old-World Charm: The hotel lobby exudes a unique blend of modern and classic aesthetics. Vintage decor pieces, like old radios and telephones, added a touch of nostalgia to the space. The lobby provided a comfortable waiting area and served as a beautiful backdrop for photos.
Comfortable and Well-Appointed Rooms: We stayed in a Premier Triple Room, which, though not spacious, comfortably accommodated our family of three. The room featured large windows offering breathtaking views of the Petronas Twin Towers. The hotel thoughtfully provided complimentary refreshments daily, including bottled water, juices, and tea. The cleanliness of the room was well-maintained, and the air-conditioning, though a bit strong, provided a refreshing respite from the Kuala Lumpur heat. The bathroom was modern and well-equipped with hot water and a functional toilet. While the in-room entertainment options were limited, it didn't significantly impact our enjoyment as we spent most of our time exploring the city.
Rooftop Relaxation: The rooftop facilities were a definite highlight. The infinity pool, though small, was clean and refreshing. The adjoining bar provided a relaxing atmosphere for evening drinks, and the views of the city skyline were simply stunning. The small gym, while basic, offered essential equipment for a light workout.
Daily Delights: The hotel offered several thoughtful touches that enhanced our stay. The daily afternoon snacks and evening tea and wine were a delightful treat. The complimentary evening refreshments, such as bubur kacang hijau (mung bean porridge) and wedang jahe (ginger tea), were a welcome end to our days.
A Culinary Journey: The breakfast buffet, while not extensive, offered a satisfying selection of both local and international dishes. From fresh fruits and cereals to hot dishes like nasi lemak, noodles, and omelets, there was something to please every palate. The quality of the food was excellent, rivaling that of many five-star hotels.
A Friendly Feline Resident: A charming touch was the presence of a friendly tabby cat that seemed to be the hotel's unofficial mascot. The cat would greet guests in the lobby and often joined diners during breakfast from outside, adding a unique and endearing touch to our stay.
Overall: Our stay at The Journal Kuala Lumpur Hotel was truly memorable. It realy realy exceed my expectation. The hotel's friendly atmosphere, convenient location, and comfortable amenities made it an ideal base for exploring the city. While there's room for improvement in the gym facilities and in-room entertainment, these minor shortcomings did not detract from our overall positive experience.
We highly recommend The Journal Kuala Lumpur Hotel to anyone seeking a comfortable, stylish, and centrally located accommodation in...
Read moreWe had the ultimate joy and pleasure of staying at the Journal Hotel over the weekend! My friends and I flew over to KL for the weekend for a birthday celebration of one of our friends and the hotel concierge stopped at nothing short of making it a wonderful experience, not just for our friend celebrating her birthday, but also her accompanying friends including us.
Off the get go, the location is amazing. Located at the heart of a bustling district, there's no shortage of food or places to explore. It is also relatively near big malls like Platinum and other multi-story shops - Don Don Donki, H&M etc. There is a minimart right outside the hotel and Watsons pharmacy further down the street which provided convenience in purchasing water and other miscellaneous items required. Though I would say the hotel already provides soap, and disposable amenities such as vanity kits, toothbrush, sanitary bags etc., which can be personally retrieved accordingly at the lobby.
The overall atmosphere and outlook of the hotel is also great and clean. There's no second guessing the cleanliness and service. Linen, corridors, room hallways, dining areas were clean and comfortable.
There's also the wonderful and free tea time service with a decent selection of food with red and white wine. It was such a treat!
The highlight of the stay for us was definitely the service provided by the concierge team. All of them were polite, professional and great. We would especially like to highlight the wonderful and helpful service of Farid and Syamil. As mentioned earlier, we were celebrating our friend's birthday during this stay. Upon informing Farid, he suggested having the room decorated as a surprise for my friend. He also took it upon himself to prepare a simple yet elegant bouquet of flowers for my friend when we were celebrating with the cake cutting at tea time. This made all of our day as it made our stay extra special!
Syamil was also wonderful in acceding to assist me with my little requests and instructions about the delivery of the cake. He ensured that it was kept a secret upon delivery, offered to prepare it for the celebration and was a great help in ensuring that the surprise celebration was a success!
The security guards were also very kind to help us and friendly in their service :)
We were also provided with a room with a relatively nice view, as requested, and were granted late check out of 2pm - which was such a treat as our flight was only later at night at 9.30pm.
We cannot recommend the hotel enough, considering the great prices for the great service and overall stay. We will be sure to stay here again upon our next trip to KL!
Thank you once again to the wonderful team at...
Read moreWarm welcome by Aiman, Farid & Rohaizad at front desk who were very accomodating and friendly. They ensured our 4 rooms were all beside each other and were on the 9th floor with unobstructed views of Jalan Bukit Bintang & Jalan Sultan Ismail intersection. This made interesting people watching throughout our stay day and night. And being CNY we were also able to watch fireworks display off the side on Jalan Bukit Bintang. Rooms ending with even numbers had views of Lot 10 and Jalan Bukit Bintang whereas odd numbered rooms had partial views of KLCC/ KL Tower side behind the hotel.
We stayed 3 nights in the Premier King bedrooms that had very comfortable mattresses and toppers. They offered a selection of pillow types and a few other extras including use of Dyson hairdryer for paying extra for Premier category rooms. One of the rooms had a plumbing smell issue that we reported to front desk. We would also have liked the shower pressure to be stronger and heat thermostat more consistent however wasn’t a deal breaker as the location of the hotel, the ease of accessibility for breakfast/snacks and good service made up for it. We enjoyed the late night drink/dessert placed in the lobby for guests coming back to the hotel after an outing. The complimentary breakfast spread that came with Premier Room was not huge however surprisingly had a good variety that changed everyday along with the selection of teas and hot drinks made to order.
Keep in mind that the KL Journal hotel is not a luxury hotel but a comfortable boutique hotel. Would return again mainly for the location to Bukit Bintang area (easy to walk back to during the day) and friendly service and of course the very comfortable beds. It is very conveniently located to all main sights and shops, including Jalan Alor for the must visit street of food galore. There’s the Bukit Bintang MRT stop about less than 5 minutes walk away, convenient if you wish to explore beyond Bukit Bintang, which we did by going on a one stop MRT ride from here to Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) building - this place is also worth a visit and it’s surrounding park, which we walked back from to the hotel passing the back of Starhill Gallery, Pavillion and Lot 10 malls.
Thank you to all the staff from front desk, cafe, housekeeping and security. Oh yes and also the warm welcome from Donny the resident cat too! All of them were excellent. We had a very enjoyable and memorable stay.
