Had a go at this Thai-style steamboat place, trying out their seafood set. It came with a mix of prawns, squid, eggs, chicken slices, glass noodles, veggies, and a few other things. It's a simple set-up, which is nice because you don’t have to spend ages deciding what to order.
But, the seafood was a bit of a letdown. The prawns didn’t feel fresh, and the chicken slices were more like uneven chunks of lower quality meat, not the big, juicy pieces I was hoping for.
We also ordered ala carte pork slices. The portion was just enough for two, but the taste was a bit plain. Nothing much to get excited about there.
The grill pan they use for the steamboat was pretty smoky, and it seemed like the air suction wasn’t doing much. Ended up with my shirt smelling like smoke, which wasn’t ideal.
However, the drinks were a highlight. I got this massive 32oz watermelon juice for just over RM10, which felt like great value for money. It was refreshing and a good size for the price.
The glass noodles with a few prawns were okay, but they kind of reminded me of instant noodle flavor – not bad, but nothing special either.
In summary, the place is alright if you’re craving Mookata and don’t mind a bit of smoke. The drinks are good value, but the food is hit or miss. The seafood set, in particular, could be fresher, and the overall flavors...
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience with this restaurant’s online ordering system. The menu on their website for boat noodle does not state “no noodle.” (Their receipt got mentioned "no noodle" they just didn't sync this description idk why) Since I am not Thai, I saw “kuew tiao” and reasonably assumed it included noodles. Nowhere in the online menu was this clarified.
In the physical menu, both the “with noodle” and “no noodle” options are listed at the same price (13.9). When I realized the issue, I asked the staff to add noodles. They did so, but when I received the bill, I was shocked to see the price increase from 13.9 to 18.4 for just one bowl. Charging extra simply because the online system failed to clearly explain the dish feels unfair and misleading.
Yes, I did not check the physical menu and this is my fault. But as a paying customer using the online system to order, I should not be penalized for unclear information. (I am not Thai so I dont know the meaning of Kao Lao). The system should be fixed immediately to prevent other customers from having the same unpleasant...
