A modernized kopitiam famous for its long queues snaking itself outside from the early mornings, prompting us to arrive around 8am to circumvent the crowd. The seating arrangement is rather compact, accommodating a high turnover of customers, which contributes to the impressively swift service. Diners are expected to serve themselves from small bowls and a selection of chili condiments, along with tissue holders on the walls. Despite the self-service aspect, the waitstaff are notably efficient and friendly, always available to assist patrons when needed.
Initially, we placed an order for their renowned Char Siu, which the waiter informed us wouldn't be available until 10am. We sampled their Wonton Soup (RM13.50) which we found exceptional, featuring a notably plump shrimp filling rich in umami, enveloped in a smooth wonton skin, in a flavorful clean tasting broth. We also ordered their signature Sang Har Mee (RM18.80) which was presented with four halved prawns, vegetables and ginger slices. Note that the yee mee noodles were served already thoroughly soaked in the thick egg gravy. While the prawns were substantial in size, they lacked the freshness and plumpness we anticipated. Additionally, there's a pronounced taste of of rice wine or vinegar that deviated from the traditional taste we expected in our Sang Har Mee. Only the Wonton Soup wowed us. Unfortunately we couldn't sample the Char Siu on...
Read moreMy first visit to this business with relatives at around 10am morning to try their food and we had the most unpleasant experience ever. We asked for the woman server / waitress wearing a white mask to take our order after we sat down and she was standing near the cashier doing nothing , looked at us while pretending to ignore us in the beginning . After calling her several times she finally came and took the order then she return and told us one of the drink is unavailable , then return a second time telling us the Char Siew is also not available. We then reorder different food and asked for two small plates for the Sang har mee and she gave us two small bowl instead , by SLAMMING the bowl on the table , gave us a nasty look and walk away without saying anything. We were all shocked by her rudeness and did not make a scene complaining to the cashier ( a woman looking like the manager at the cashier ). This business certainly has a huge problem with their staff's poor attitude towards paying customers and i'm sure we're not the only ones experiencing such hostility from their staff , treating us like the punching bag. The food is fine but we will not be returning for a second time after being treated so poorly. I recommend customers to avoid this business if they want to avoid similar treatement from their staff. 100 percent nasty...
Read moreFirst impression: the place looks slightly crowded due to seating maximization but is still acceptable.
The number 1 complaint like other people have mentioned however is the service. If you are unlucky, then you get left out.
It first started with no one serving us, so we had to navigate through everything as another table had someone that served them attentively. Why the differences, I wonder?
Next was when everyone around us was already served, yet we were waiting until no end. After seeing the server react with an "oh shoot" look only confirms that they have indeed forgotten about us.
Food-wise, it's a hit & miss, where the hot seller hits the spot while others miss out by far. No wonder this place has such mixed reviews.
Lastly, the point of contention was we waited triple the time while others got it as soon as they sat down. A new customer that had just walked in ordered, and shortly after it was served. WOW, just WOW. I can't believe it happened, but it did.
TL;DR: Pray before you enter here. If you are unlucky and don't have...
