After a beautiful temple tour, we were really excited for a good breakfast. We ordered 1 tea, 2 bru coffees and 3 sets of 2 paal appams.
The tea came quickly but the coffees took 5 extra minutes after a staff member asked for our drink order again. We didnāt mind it at first.
After 15 minutes, we asked about our paal appams and were told they were being made.
But over the next 30 minutes, 3 different staff members kept coming to take our order again, making us repeat it and mention how long we had been waiting. Meanwhile, we noticed other customers who arrived after us had already ordered, eaten, paid and left.
At the 45-minute mark, an older staff member saw us still waiting and came to help. She mentioned she noticed us sitting at our table without food for long and wanted to help out. After explaining everything , she scolded another staff member within earshot.
After that, the guy went to the paal appam station and within minutes, they rushed out 2 single paal appams instead of the double sets we had ordered. One person in our group still didnāt get any food which made things even worse.
When we finally took a bite, we realized the paal appams were undercooked, missing the crispy edges and soft centers we were expecting. Worse, they still had the raw flour batter taste.
Since the food wasnāt good, we decided to cancel the rest of our order. The kind older staff member tried to convince us to order something else but we were too disappointed and lost our appetite.
Even paying was frustrating because the cashier was missing. Staffs kept rushing past us, taking orders and serving food but no one helped. Calling them out and would just be a nod and acknowledgement as they rushed past us.
After waiting another 5 minutes, we finally managed to pay. When we brought up the bad service and food, the staff just nodded casually, making us feel ignored.
This was by far the worst dining experience weāve had in Brickfields. Eating out should be enjoyable but our visit to Restaurant Visalatchi's Banana Leaf was full of long waits and mistakes. Good service and tasty food should go hand in hand but both were...

Yesterday, my wife and I visited Visalatchiās Banana Leaf Restaurant in Brickfields. We were both very hungry and looking forward to having a satisfying meal. Upon arrival, I approached the food counter and requested a plate of rice. To my surprise, the staff refused my request and informed me that the restaurant only serves food on banana leaves.
I then explained politely that I do not eat much and preferred to have a plate with a banana leaf placed on top, so that I could manage my own portion comfortably. However, my request was still not entertained. Feeling unwelcome and disappointed by the lack of flexibility and customer service, I decided not to argue further and simply left the restaurant with my wife.
This experience left me with mixed feelings. While I respect a restaurantās tradition of serving meals in a certain way, I believe customer requests, especially reasonable ones, should be considered. A small adjustment, such as providing a plate with a banana leaf, could have made our dining experience pleasant rather than discouraging. Unfortunately, due to this inflexibility, we left without having a meal and without the satisfaction we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe first time i went there for dinner was good. I enjoyed it. There is an old aunty there who is so humble and she attends to her customers.
But over the times ive been going there, service has gone bad. When i went for dinner the 2nd time i requested for egg rawa dhosa, they said oh they are giving the last batch flour for me. Then finish for the day. U need to have enough material to cook food. You should be surveying your shop on numbers of customers and whats popular.
Also, today i went there, the food was cold and i ordered my drink which did not arrive. And while i was eating they decided to mop the floor and then it started smelling like dirty wet...
