AUTHENTIC PADANG FOLK FARE PLUS MODERN TOUCHES There is no 'kerbau' roof exterior nor eye-catching Minangkabau links except on their business card, but look out for the lunch-time buffet bunting along Jalan Raja Muda in front of the school. The word 'Padang' refers to the lunch fare of the folk from the capital of West Sumatra. Heritage has it, the Minangkabau folk always 'marantau' (leave home for economic growth bringing back the fruits of labour ultimately). So the cuisine of meat, fish, chicken are intended to keep long thus, the buffet of dishes are uses chilli, turmeric and mostly, fried. Coconut milk is a staple. Thus, 'Pucuk Ubi Masak Lemak (cassava leaves in coconut milk). This is cooked like my late Mum and late Wak did it. Green leaves floating in yellow tumeric gravy. Hamid loves the 'ayam kampung goreng'(deep-fried free rein chicken) and rendang kering(beef chunks cooked in paste of coconut- chilli- onion- galangal- lemon grass). My repeated visits here are exclusively for their tendons cooked in coconut -turmeic gravy, from the legs of cows.Nowhere else sells this, that I know. So the bill can be quite high. I top my lunch with pineapple juice drunk out of the original fruit. Smarter still,do like the traditional folks do. End the meal with hot tea without sugar to cleanse the body system from any fat. Finally,my dessert is sandwich ice-cream that comes from a factory. Something else, the staff here are friendly and helpful. But drinks should get to customer faster. Last time, the Indonesian tourists next to us got their drinks after finishing their lunch. The walls are glass mirrored. Park along the side roads. The toilets could...
Read morePros: tasty dishes clean environment with good air circulation, outdoor seating has plenty of fans to keep cool on a hot afternoon friendly and fast service. Bonus: friendly cats if you’re a cat person.
Cons: hard to get parking (recommended to take Grab) as you need to squeeze in the narrow road to navigate, dishes run out really fast (recommended to come as early as possible preferably before 12pm for lunch) the restaurant doesn’t take the smoking ban in eateries seriously as I experienced firsthand a rude customer who refuses to put out his cigarette and continued to blow smoke towards my direction. I requested the staff to politely tell the customer off, however the customer refuses to heed any directions. I had to move to another empty table to have my meal. This experience left a terrible impression and aftertaste, and I personally wouldn’t come here again due to...
Read moreWent to this restaurant at 6pm. Use MRT putrajaya and stop at Raja Uda. From there, use exit A and need to walk 500m more to reach this restaurant.
The food choices is quite limited as I came at 6pm. If come for lunch will be good but I see the parking space is really limited.
I pick pucuk ubi & ikan patin. The food is not warm maybe cause it was late already. Will be superb if it is still warm. Nevertheless, the food is delicious. Ikan patin taste good and still fresh. Pucuk ubi is just okay.
For dining space, there are 2 section, indoor with aircond and outside with a roof. The vibe is really like small town/village eventhough the restaurant located at centre of KL.
