I am a huge fan of their homemade spaghetti with amatriciana pork cheek tomato sauce. Never fail to order that dish each time and never disappoints whenever I make a visit there.
However this time around I wanted to be adventurous and re-explore a dish I used to order several years ago, which came out totally different this time around - the Norcina sausage and mushroom with spaghetti. I made a terrible mistake as it was super heavy with cream and cheese and was very difficult for me to ingest.
I approached the foreign worker who seemed like the most seasoned waiter and explained the Norcina I used to experience back then which wasn’t that heavy in cream and was closer to the aglio olio style. He responded with a lengthy explanation on the history of Norcina and it never used to be how I experienced it. After some back and forth, I politely asked if it was possible to explore making it a little more palatable for me since I was not able to endure the heaviness of the dish. He simply looked away, walked past me and headed to my table, took my plate and walked to the kitchen and said he would try to see if he could do something. His entire demeanour was hostile, broody and unpleasant.
The Italian owner came by this time and I explained my experience the same way I did with the previous waiter. He more or less gave the same explanation as that waiter, albeit at a more defensive tone (as if he was trying hard to restrain himself from sounding offended but I could sense it anyway) and his voice was slightly raised. He hesitantly offered to try what he could to make the dish more palatable for me, but went so far as to raise both his hands defensively and stated quite loudly that “he wouldn’t take responsibility for the outcome of any changes or modifications to the original Norcina since it would no longer be their creation and it would result in a very different dish”.
At that point I was very put off by his demeanour and his words but at the same time the “modified Norcina” came out which they basically added some tomato sauce to the cream. It was sadly, still unpalatable for me. Anyway lesson learned, if I ever decide to be adventurous again, I shouldn’t assume that the dish would come out like I thought it would some years ago (and be perceived by the waiter and the owner as a hallucinating customer), and instead enquire what the dish is like for more clarity and certainty or better yet they could include some pictures to accompany each menu item.
I would still eventually return for the Amatriciana someday but sadly I was very put off by the service that night. Out of the 6-7 visits I’ve made to Pizza Rosso over the last few years, this is certainly the worst experience to date and I am a little less motivated to revisit this place in the near future. There are simply other better Italian restaurants that offer good food and better service - especially if you want a complete dining experience that ends on a good note even if you ended up ordering the wrong dish since the service more than makes up for it. Pizza Rosso is unfortunately, not...
Read moreLovely authentic Italian restaurant that serves pizza, pasta, sandwiches all of which made from scratch in the kitchen with authentic imported Italian ingredients including the flour itself, not to mention the various types of cheese, tomatoes puree and spices. The owner is truly passionate about the quality and taste of his food and that it must be truly typical Italian style. We had mushroom soup which was very delicious served with fresh stretchy crispy crust bread, I asked for an extra piece and was given a plate plus focaccia bread. How generous. We tried two types of pizza - the margherita con bufala with buffalo cheese pizza and Scamorza cheese and parma ham pizza. Both these pizza were absolutely delicious and tasted perfect. Every bite was scrumptious and delicious. The dough was oven baked to a cripsy slightly burnt top and yet maintain its stretchiness on the inside. Exactly how I love my pizza dough. We also had the green fettuccine norcina pasta which is a yummy creamy sausgae and mushrooms sauce loaded with pork. We really enjoyed this pasta. It was very delicious. We ended our dinner with classic tiramisu. The cream in it was heavenly but I would have prefer it if the liquor is stronger and the cake base less coarse. Overall still good. So much on the menu that we wanted to try. We will definitely be back next week to...
Read moreBack in December 20202, my wife and I stumbled upon this hidden gem of an Italian restaurant whilst walking around looking for something to eat at Arkadia. By Golly, this was by far the best and most authentic Italian restaurant we have ever experienced. If I had to imagine what it would be like walking around the provinces in Italy, looking for authentic home cooked Italian meals, this would be it. The food was so good that we had to bring our children back there to experince it, and so in January this year we went back as a family of 6 to experience it again. Again, the food was not disappointing and surpassed our expectations. The pastas are home made as with the sauces too. You can tell that it was freshly made from the taste. We liked their tomato based sauce the most followed by the carbonara which was made form eggs and not the usual cream found elsewhere. We also tried their pizzas and they were all very good. Rosso is now definately our most favourite Italian restaurant. Highly recommended if you are looking for that special authentic Italian Pasta and Pizza. Oh, and I must also give a shout-out to the Manager there, Michele or Mike as he would prefer to be called. He is the best host and was always checking on us and our meals. Even made suggestions which we tried and was...
