On the first impression the interior decor was neat and spacious. The walls are painted dark gray with simple light decorations on the walls. They have counter seats facing the sashimi counter and also comfortable tables and seats. On a weekday lunch time it is pretty much quiet, with little customers. The problem may be because of the lack of parking around the area. We ordered the udon with sashimi and soba with sashimi lunch sets. The udon and soba are good and nicely done. The sashimi has a mixture of fish meats and is considerably fresh. The ice cream (we chose the black sesame and yuzu flavours) is good, without tasting too sweet. The ice cream cake free. There are a couple of problems. The soba doesn’t come with chawan mushi, despite being stated in the menu that all sets comes with it. When questioned they only said the menu is wrong. It is technically misrepresentation and perhaps a possible disputable thing that can be complained to the authorities, so I hope the establishment can correct it. Second issue comes with the price of the soba set. It is incorrectly priced. When highlighted they reversed the bill. How many others could have overpaid due to such mistake? It is also a serious issue which should be corrected.

UPDATE ON 2ND VISIT: It’s unfortunate that they removed the pitan tofu from their menu🥲 In a culinary journey that redefined excellence, Nara by Sticks N Maki impressed with its commitment to using fresh and premium ingredients🍣🍱. We ordered their Engawa Don, boasting an oil-rich flavor with a slightly crunchy texture that effortlessly melted in our mouths like butter🧈, leaving a lingering sensation of unparalleled quality. However, the true star of the night was the Pitan Tofu – a brilliantly creative dish that is a relatively rare find at Japanese restaurants. It unexpectedly stole the spotlight as our favorite dish of the night 💯. Each bite resonated with flavors that transcended the ordinary, making this dining experience truly exceptional. The lady owner👩🏻 exhibited a friendly and helpful demeanor, further enhancing our dining experience here. We will definitely patronize again to try other dishes in the future👍🏼.

A hidden gem. Personally, it has become my favourite place to dine Japanese cuisine with a little fusion twist. The serving team that attended to us were friendly and attentive. Joanne recommended us some dishes and it was all very impressive. 1. Salmon sashimi - fresh and thick cuts 2. Engawa Don - definitely a must have in my opinion. A don that’s full of flavour and fresh variation of seafood (Engawa fish, caviar, uni) 3. Mars Chilli Roll - it has chilli padi in it that gives the spicy kick, an interesting flavour. 4. Yakitori - juicy with a hint of char (another one of my favourite) 5. Deep fried puffer fish - worth the try if you’re curious 6. Yuzu & Matcha ice cream - perfect end to the meal. They have a bar upstairs too! My friend and I had such a great end of to our evening - great food and dessert at the restaurant followed by unwinding our evening with their smooth sake & refreshing cocktails at the bar.

Not worth the money at all! Came here on a sunday night. Ordered a sushi ike and a salmon ikura set.

The sushi from the sushi ike was different than what was shown in the menu. For the maki that was in the sushi ike, the menu showed that there were some salmon in it, but when it came, it didn’t have any! When we asked the waiter why, he said it’s a chef’s selection type of thing and that there was a fine print saying that the pics in the menu are just for illustration. Couldn’t he mention that earlier when we were ordering?? And even if the pics are just for illustration, it does not even directly mean that you can change the content of it however you like!

For the salmon ikura set, once we placed the order, the waiter then came and asked whether we could change it to one of the sets that had a mix of different fishes. When we asked why, he just said that there’s still salmon available, but the chef doesn’t want to cut a whole fish for the rest of the night. We were dining in around 8.30. It’s not even that late so why can’t you just cut the fish????

Bad experience and the portion they serve is completely not worth it for the price. There are better japanese restaurants with better...
