Silk Road 1409 Restaurant — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

The QR code system was great for ordering, but the human touch was painfully absent. None of the staff spoke English or Malay, only Mandarin. Halal Muslim Chinese food. Who are they catering to, exactly? To top it off, our order arrived without cutlery for three of us, and the dishes were served one by one, taking a torturous 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete. Can you believe it? Fried rice, of all things, was the last to arrive, over an hour later! And the place wasn't even crowded. We had to scavenge for plates and utensils ourselves because the staff was nowhere to be found. Thank goodness the food was decent but far from impressive.

When we asked about their busy times, a staff member casually mentioned that evenings during dinner were peak hours. Well, they should have been prepared then! We finally gave in and asked for takeaway containers because the food was so oily it filled us up quickly. One of the owners handed us the containers, and we had to pack our leftovers ourselves. Very rarely am I able to find authentic cuisines such as these but honestly, it hit the spot (even for those who don't eat much). We shared three dishes — beef dumplings, mala tofu, and tomato & egg.

The beef dumplings were so good — juicy inside, soft chewy skin, and even better with chili oil. We finished them way too fast. Should've ordered 3 more plates 🤣

The mala tofu had a subtle heat but gets very addictive after a few bites! It had that nice numbing spice without going overboard. Super flavourful and the tofu was soft and soaked up all that saucy goodness.

And then the tomato & egg — classic comfort food. It was sweet, savoury, and just felt like something you'd want on a rainy day with warm rice.

The place had a chill vibe, friendly service, and everything came out pretty quick. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving halal Chinese food with good flavours.

This restaurant is one of the best Chinese-muslim restaurant that my family ever eaten at. Their food were quite extravagant and scrumptious. They taste way much better compare to other chinese-muslim restaurant such as HOMST 😑... I would recommend their lamb chop for newcomers and their new dish, Laa Mee to challenge yourself to their spiciness, you can always ask them to add it extra spicy. Their environment are very nice too. They have a great mix of both traditional and modern era style of decorations. It definitely had cost a fortune to get it done. Though their service might be a tiny bit lacking. This is because only their owner/manager is doing the talking and promoting their food and the servers are like a robot/machine who didn't spoke a word.
