We lucked out and had the place all to ourselves which made the experience even more intimate. We chose the hayashi lunch and were glad we did.
The highlights were the kingfish on rice cracker welcome dish (7/10), the A5 wagyu 9/10), and the two sashimi dishes (9/10). The A5 wagyu was high quality and braised to perfection. It melted in the mouth. The only detractor is the sauce that came with it, which was a bit too sweet & rich to our liking.
The first sashimi dish, amberjack with apple ginger dressing was surprisingly good. The amberjack was super fresh, flavorful and paired well with the dressing. The second sashimi dish was the best dish of all: the scallops, chutoro (with the shiso flowers) and snapper were the best we’ve had. The torched skipjack I enjoyed despite some fishy after taste, my husband was less of a fan. For all of them though, having a stronger tasting/spicier wasabi and some ginger to cleanse the palate in between (we used our hojicha instead) would’ve brought the dish to a 10/10.
The komachi rice parcel was quaint but tasty, though portioned a bit big (6/10). The raindrop dessert was surprisingly good, light refreshing and nicely contrasted by the rice puff & black honey (8/10). The foamed uji matcha at the end was also very enjoyable (10/10).
The only two dishes that were ok but not great were the uni tofu in bonito broth and the chawanmushi with snow crab. The bonito broth was quite overpowering, uni was not strong enough in flavor and the caviar was pretty tasteless. The chawanmushi was perfectly cooked, but the snow crab was very tough and texturally detracted from the dish.
Service was top notch, highly attentive, professional and we loved the explanations and recommendations. While this omakase did not have any sushi dishes, we’re still happy with the quality of the sashimi and the cooked dishes.
There is free parking included (private lot that you pay rm10 per entry that is then deducted from the bill).
We would be glad to have a chance to return for another special date at this hidden gem (almost tempted not to add to the 5 star reviews) and hopefully try...
Read moreI wanted to have an Omakase experience for my birthday, which was May 31. I had never treated myself to such an experience before But had zero doubts I wanted to treat me and my significant other/partner to this experience and I am very happy. She found this place while I was traveling abroad for business.
The chef was everything we would expect for such an experience, and the food was out of this world. There was not one single dish, that disappointed.
I was skeptical about being satiated. I have eaten sushi and sashimi. I love it to be honest, so I was not sure a menu filled with small portions, would satiate me. However, I was pleasantly surprised, that the ordering of the food; meaning the order it was eaten in was very satisfying. I was actually very full.
A picture is worth 1000 words, so let me let the pictures give justice to the experience.
some people in this country cry out spending the sums required to enjoy. Such an experience is too much. My revivalist, I believe we are worth it and should indulge if our wallets will permit.
I highly recommend this business and the experience and I would not change it but instead want to encourage others to share their special moments with someone they care about at...
Read moreHad the pleasure of visiting Takeen Omakase for lunch on 15th August with my mum and friend, and it exceeded all expectations.
We opted for the Hayashi course and every dish felt meticulously crafted, with clean, straightforward flavors that are deceptively simple yet each bite managed to surprise us. The chawanmushi, for example, was the softest and silkiest I've had in my life. Paired with green yuzu zest and snow crab, it was simply mouth-watering and I still can't get over the texture and flavour. And the Wagyu, uni, award-winning 朴叶 rice, kombu soy sauce and literally everything else was just 💯💯. You can genuinely tell that Chef Thomas loves what he does; his passion and attention to detail shine through in every course.
The service was just as impressive. Chef Thomas is open, friendly and personable, creating a welcoming atmosphere at the counter, while the lady wait staff was very attentive to our needs and knowledgeable, and even gave us great tips on making the perfect onsen egg at home!
If you enjoy omakase that balances precision, creativity, and genuine warmth, Takeen Omakase is a must-visit. Can’t wait to be back in KL, hopefully during ankimo season, and fingers-crossed I get to try their house-made...
