叉烧+烧肉 云吞面 WTM Char Siew + Sio Bak (Dry, Small) = RM14.90 SST 6% = RM0.89
This is supposedly KL's Best Rated WTM. It is a Classic Kopitiam-Like Eatery located in a Row of Shophouses in Taman Cheras. Unlike Hai Kah Lang however, it is Non-Airconditioned. It is Warm but Not Humid. Relatively Cleanly Maintained.
What is Very Impressive is even on a Friday Morning at 9.30am, the Place was Packed! I consider myself lucky that I was still able to find a Solo Seat. As I observed further, all the Customers even appears to be Locals, so despite its High Rating, its not just a Touristy Place. This is a Restoran that even the Locals visit.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Price of RM14.90 (S$4.60), this doesn't look like a Super Affordable Dish at Face Value but believe me, you are getting your Money's Worth.
The Amount of Noodles and 16 Pieces of Decent Sized Protein Cuts given even for their "Small Size" feels Very Acceptable, Fair and Filling for the Price. Actually I'm more curious how much Liao they give for their Larger Sizes tbh.
Quality of the Roasted Meats exceeded my Expectations. They're not only Decent, they are Very Good. This is not your Typical Paper Thin Dry Dry Red Colouring Type of Char Siew. In fact, the Char Siew here is the Type of "Meat Candy" Level that I love from You Kee in KSL City Mall I reviewed the other time. Sio Bak likewise is Roasted In-House with a Lovely Biscuity Skin. 一分钱一分货, 真材实料, 真功夫.
If there is anything that may discourage you, iti'll probably be the Noodle Texture. If you are someone that Die Die ONLY go for Super QQ Bouncy type of Noodles, this is not it. The Noodles here are more towards 软绵绵 Soft Tender Type of Texture. I am personally ok with this because I feel this Soft Texture harmonizes well with the Overall Design of the Dish.
I am Culinarily Very Impressed with whoever designed this Dish. Every Component here works. The Soft Tender "Yin" of the Noodles was a Good Counter-Balance to the more Crunchy Crispy "Yang" of the Meat Proteins. Everything was in Harmony. From a Culinary Perspective, I understand why this Noodle is made the way its made. I totally respect what this Chef is trying to express in this Dish. Bravo.
I fully understand why this Eatery is considered a Top Rated WTM in KL. My Entire Experience from the Affordable and No Stingy Feel of Liao in the Dish, to the Culinary Quality, right down to the Customer Service Level that I personally experienced impressed me.
I can even recommend this because the Michelin Rated Hai Kah Lang is also nearby. So you can actually come to Taman Cheras to shunbian enjoy both Places in 1 Trip provided your Tummy can also tahan it lah.
Hahaha! 不简单 this KL Taman Cheras Area. I'm sure there must be other Top Quality Restorans in this Area just waiting to be Explored and Discovered! Highly Recommended!

Read moreYulek Wanton Mee has garnered the reputation of serving the best wanton mee not only in Cheras but also in the entirety of KL, so we arrived around 8am on a thursday morning to try it out. You order and pay at the counter before finding a seat, though be prepared to share tables on crowded days. The service is quick and efficient. Utensils and green chili are on the table for self service. You could also request them to place a bottle of Koki Kampung Garlic Chili Sauce on your table.
The food arrived in approximately 5 minutes. We ordered a small portion of each dish, however the serving sizes are substantial, with generous portions of meat piled atop a heaping portion of noodles. Each plate of Wanton Mee is accompanied with a small bowl of wanton soup with 3 wantons inside.
The Pork Rib Wanton Mee (RM12.90) was quite flavorful, the ribs are prepared with the same sauce as the char siu as they shared a similar taste profile. However the bone-in pieces of pork did not possess a fall off the bone tenderness, and instead, was slightly tough. The Char Siu & Siu Yok Wanton Mee (RM14.90) arrived with an abundance of appetizing meats. Their renowned Char Siu is delicious, with a delightful meat to fat ratio, a pleasant sweetness and a subtle char that enhances its aroma. However, we found the Siu Yok to stand out more, boasting a delectable crispy skin and a flavorful, leaner meat. Unfortunately, the noodles themselves were just okay. The egg noodles weren't all that springy, as it lies swimming in the sweet wanton mee sauce. Not a bad plate of wanton mee, but I wouldn't say it's the best.
Their Fried Wanton (RM8) is a must order, which we found extremely delicious and addictive. It pairs wonderfully with the garlic chili sauce. Their wanton skins aren't the typical thin and crunchy ones you'd get, likely due to the usage of handmade wanton skins, thus the crunch is a little bit sturdier. I believe they used the same wantons for the soup, however the aroma of the meat is more pronounced when fried. Their Chicken Feet (RM7) was just okay, with a pleasant flavor although a little bit coarse in texture. The establishment began filling up as we concluded our meal, so arrive early to avoid the crowd. Parking is also a nightmare.
Would return for the Fried Wantons, Char...
Read moreMr & Mrs Wong, when they were still dating, started selling wantan mee at a humble roadside stall somewhere in Taman Yulek. The year was 1982.
In 2014, they moved into this shop, which has since become something of an institution in Taman Yulek - for serving one of the best wantan mee in this part of town.
Today, the business is still run by the couple, now with the help of their grown-up children - two daughters and a son.
The Wong seniors are still very active, very much hands-on. Mr Wong senior still personally roasts the charsiu every day, and Mrs Wong senior still personally portions the wantan mee into individual plates at the open kitchen.
One of the daughters, the friendly Ah Yee with good PR skills, handles the counter - efficiently taking orders and arranging seats for the seemingly endless stream of customers. Customers who are mostly loyal regulars, with a few new converts like yours truly. Yes, it was my first visit.
Don’t be discouraged by the long queue outside the shop - it clears up quite fast (high and quick turnover is their game), only to be replaced by another wave of "eager beavers".
I ordered a dry charsiu wantan mee (RM11.00). Despite the packed house, I didn’t have to wait long for my much-anticipated plate.
The noodles were al dente - just the right firmness with a springy bite. Drizzled in a blend of "gon lou" sauce that packed enough umami to elevate the chewing experience.
The charsiu was flavourful and near melt-in-the-mouth, with superb caramelised charred bits - a product of Mr Wong senior’s roasting skill, perfected over more than four decades of doing the same thing day in and day out.
The wantan pieces were delicious and quite a mouthful - each one wrapped around a tasty and generous filling.
Service Level: Fast, efficient and friendly.
Atmosphere: Well-ventilated with fans. Be prepared to share a table if you're not in a big group. Bustling, but not annoying. Enjoy the vibrancy and energy while waiting for a table or your food.
Business Hours: Daily: 7:30am-4:00pm Closed on Tuesdays
Will I repeat? Yes, especially to try their other bestsellers - roasted pork and pork ribs.
