Part 1 - Arts Cafe
Arts Cafe was more of an accidental find albeit a fruitful & pleasant one. The minister's coffee o clock had arrived, and someone was going to suffer if she didn't get a dose of caffeine. Since we were around Kuah town, I spotted this cafe as I came out of the duty free shop nearby.
Good first impression - every nook & corner was decorated with art pieces stretching from the front of the shop until toilet at the back. Limited tables on the ground floor but they do have additional tables on the second floor.
◾New Zealand Lamb Shank + Vegetable - different from the usual lamb shanks that I had in Klang Valley (brown sauce & tomato-based sauce), I took my first bite onto the not-so-well presented dish. The sheer taste and the texture of the meat made such a profound impact that I declared it as the best I had. The gravy was murky yet delicious until the last drop. ◾Cottage Pie - a choice between chicken or beef, with a crust if mashed potato, topped with parmesan & mozzarella. Baked till golden brown, all I heard was nom nom nom from the hungry son and everything was literally gone in less than 10 minutes. Must be good. ◾Alla Bolognese pizza was no-brainer choice for the princesses who can agree in unison on this classic Italian food. ◾Chicken & vegetables clear soup ◾a selection of cakes were displayed at the counter. Our cheesecake put a smile on the face & complimented by the long black coffee that seemed to elevate in taste by the cake.
Little did I know that I'd be back for Part 2 few months later with a group of drunk kakis - brought them here and this is a story for next round.
Part 2 - Arts Cafe
We still had some time left to kill before joining the sunset cruise where we had one of the craziest time in our lives. So we decided to fill our tummy with some food before embarking the yatch.
Suggesting Arts Cafe once again because I missed the awesome lamb shank that I had during my trip less than 6 months ago, everyone opened to my suggestion as it made sense to dine in a cafe due to the hot weather outside.
◾New Zealand Lamb Shank + Vegetable - it took only a while before someone in the office group proclaimed that the lamb shank was the best he had in his life, to affirm my opinion in my precious post. Of course I also ordered the same dish to horde everything to myself this time. ◾Pan grilled salmon served with roasted potato and small salad - requested to be cooked medium and they did it competently. ◾Pan grilled thicken thigh served with roasted potato and small salad was good with crispy skin and fall-off-the-bone texture. Brown sauce served separately as to keep the skin crispy all the time. ◾Beef alla Bolognese pizza easily gobbled up by the young ones in our group. ◾Creamy mushroom soup made a sensible choice for those who love drinking soup. ◾Classic Salad with grilled chicken for health conscious people in the group. ◾This time we had the luxury to choose chocolate cake, apple crumble and carrot cake to be shared between us.
We actually went back to Arts Cafe again on our last day just to feast on the lamb shank as a friend couldn't forget the taste.
Note: taste is subjective 🙏🏻 for me and the rest of the gang,...
Read moreIf you're staying in Kuah as an expat, chances are you'll be at one of the posh hotels in the south-east corner of the island and will be looking to put together a list of affordable but decent local eateries. Arts Cafe should absolutely be on that list. You can even combine the trip with your duty-free shopping, as two of the best alcohol shops are on the same road! As for the place itself, it had as much charm and character as the name suggests and makes great use of its small space. We found the servers attentive and it was thanks to one of their recommendations that I had such a good meal. Portion sizes are decent. As much as I love pasta, I usually avoid it when eating out due to the small portions, but my wife ordered the carbonara and ended up having to take some away, so generous was the portion. I would recommend the beef rendang with roti cenai, which was as good a rendang as I've had in Malaysia, but the menu is broad enough that there's something for everyone and you won't be breaking the bank, so come and decide...
Read moreLove the vibes cause its chill and so on but- I and husband ordered a crunchy salad which is ceasar salad, fish and chips and Nachos Chips 1- Caesar salad was great but no croutons, peach was almost bad. 2- Fish and chips was not my expectations, why? Love the chips cause it made me full all the way but the fish is too fresh 🤣 as in i ate the fish and felt fish bones inside. A bit of fishy smell i may add. 3- nachos chips was great until i burnt myself on the plate 🙂 the staff didn’t warn us about it but i do expected the plate will be VERY HOT. So yeah, i burnt myself. 4- The one with scarves is really great with service, i asked and she answered everything great. But the other one with specs with no scarves- she is the one with snob face and the one didn’t warn us about the plate being hot🤣
Overall i would want to recommend this restaurant to someone because off the vibes but i think you guys can make it better for the future☺️ thanks...
