It’s a small, tucked-away spot near the beach. Five or six tables, a kitchen the size of a cupboard, and a chef who’s probably pulling triple duty as cook, waiter, and friendly uncle. And yet, somehow, it works. The décor is basic — no air conditioning, only fans. No cards, only cash, and a handful of tables. The dishes aren’t complicated, but someone clearly cares about how they look on the plate.
The staff, both front and back, speak good English, so even if you’re just passing through, ordering is easy. They also have a spiciness guide on the back of the menu. The flavours hit hard and authentic, especially if you stray from the usual staples and dive into rarer dishes like the cika, padprik, and sambal ijo. These aren’t just Thai-Malaysian twists; they’re bold moves that pay off. Vegetarians won’t be stuck ordering plain rice either — there’s a whole section just for them. Everyone’s welcome.
Expect to wait sometimes. There’s usually just one cook in the kitchen, and that means patience is part of the experience. Portions lean on the modest side but are packed with flavour and freshness. Prices are ridiculously reasonable, especially for the quality — this is a spot that serves locals and travellers alike without emptying your wallet. Tourist trap this ain’t. The only downside is you’ll leave with some sweat and...
Read moreI've been wondering all day whether to write this review. Yesterday my husband and I went out for dinner. We like to eat locally and support the locals. We did a thorough research before choosing a place for dinner, because the day before my husband got food poisoning in another restaurant. The gentleman who served us was very nice and polite, he advised us, took our order, and we didn't have to wait long for the first course to be served (due to my husband's illness, only I ate). For an appetizer, I had deep fried squid, they were very tasty, fresh, not rubbery. They tasted good. For the main course, I ordered Kung fu flat noodles, a fairly large portion. But the shrimps that were in the sauce were not fresh! They had brown-green heads! They shouldn't have been used in the kitchen at all, they were not suitable for consumption! The previously mentioned very nice gentleman suggested serving me something else, but I had completely lost my appetite, he deducted the dish from the bill, even though I wanted to pay and leave as soon as possible! I was very...
Read moreThis is my second time with Jomakan. The set meal is really worth it, less than RM50 for 2 person with fish, vegetable, tomyum soup, mixed vegetables, omelette, rice together with 2 drinks. Was here last year September 2024, and now in June 2025. They seem to renovate the place abit, so it's comfy. There is parking, but is kinda limited as it's a bit secluded area. They serve with great Malaysian hospitality. Vibes is really comforting. I visited this place during weekdays, so it is less crowded. But I observed there are foreign tourist as well (maybe due to the good review), I am like the only Malaysian here dining. The food quality is good, tasty and affordable price wise. But you might need to wait a while for the food (average time of 10-15 mins if is not too crowded), as there is only a cook. But it is definitely worth the wait, the tomyum soup I had in 2024 tasted the same when I had in 2025 (now). Quality wise is superb. Would definitely recommend to pay this place a visit if you are in Pantai...
