Monti Melaka is undeniably a stunning spot for date nights or social gatherings. The ambience is chic yet relaxed, and the rooftop view is simply breathtaking — the kind that makes you linger a little longer over your glass of wine. That said, you are definitely paying a premium more for the atmosphere and view rather than for the food or service.
The food itself was good, though not at the price point I’d expect to pay again casually. The menu is on the smaller side, which I actually appreciate — it allows the kitchen to focus on quality over quantity. However, I found the portions inconsistent. For example, the pasta was served in a noticeably small portion compared to the eggplant parmigiana, which was listed as a starter.
Some dishes stood out: the beef tartare came with an onion sorbet that was refreshing and unexpected; the pizza had a beautifully soft and fluffy base that wasn’t overly bready — one of the highlights for me; and the lamb flap was tender, well-braised, and pleasantly mild in flavor, unlike many lamb dishes that tend to be overpowering.
Where Monti fell short was the service. The staff were attentive enough with drinks and clearing plates, but the pacing of food was an issue. We requested that dishes be served whenever they were ready (except dessert), so I didn’t mind the sequence being mixed. What felt odd, however, was that the appetizers took much longer to arrive compared to the second course — we were already halfway through the pizza and pasta (which themselves had taken a while to appear even after just a single piece of focaccia bread service) before the eggplant parmigiana came out, followed by the beef tartare. The wait for the lamb flap was even longer. When we finally asked, the staff admitted there were only two people in the kitchen, but this wasn’t proactively communicated, nor was it actually necessary information for us as diners. Additionally, staff knowledge could improve — when asked about the "red ball" that came with the tartare, the waiter hesitated rather than simply checking right away. These are small but noticeable misses at this price point.
On a more positive note, we celebrated a birthday here and they did make the moment feel special by playing a birthday song and serving our tiramisu with a candle (though no complimentary treats).
Verdict: Would I return? Yes, but only for a very special occasion. Monti Melaka is a place where you pay for the view, not necessarily the...

We opted for their lunch set, which included: 👉🏻 Zuppa di Pesce: A rich and flavorful seafood soup with a generous portion of fresh seafood. A fantastic start to the meal. 👉🏻 Beef Ragu Linguine: A hearty pasta dish with plenty of tender meat chunks. The flavors were good, though the pasta could have been a touch more al dente. 👉🏻 Tiramisu: A decent dessert to round off the meal, though it felt like a simplified version compared to other tiramisu options on their menu.
Additionally, we ordered a couple of à la carte dishes: 👉🏻 Acquerello Risotto: Prepared fresh at our table, which added a unique touch to the experience. While it was slightly cheesy for our preference, it was still enjoyable. 👉🏻 Spaghetti 'Aglio e Olio: This was the highlight! The bold garlic flavor, perfectly charred prawns, and delightful texture of the pasta made it truly outstanding. The ambiance of the rooftop, with its panoramic views of Melaka’s skyline, elevated the entire experience. The staff were friendly, professional, and attentive throughout the meal, adding to the overall enjoyment.

Read moreI came here with down to earth expectations. The initial greeting and guide from the staff to the table was good however once the order is done it all went downhill from there. The service staff didn't even know the drinks we ordered and they were serving it. She said she forgot but in the end we had to sort it ourselves. The food was also not as good as it should be, prawn shells still attached in the batter the beef was over cooked and the lasagne was dry and luke warm. We were celebrating my daughter's birthday and when the desert was served it was just put on another table and the theatrics of the dish was ruined cause the staff did it in such a hurry we missed the photo opportunity and on top of all that, it wasn't in front of the birthday girl but an empty seat at the table. They kept clearing away our dishes when we were not finished and didn't even bother to ask if it can be cleared. Truly disappointed at the service and how it ruined the meal and atmosphere. Will definitely not be coming back here.
