This place has been around for so long, it might as well get it's own UNESCO World Heritage site designation. 😂 But in all seriousness, they've been in operations for decades, and a legit Melaka INSTITUTION. You are in Melaka, you stop by and buy enough putu piring to fill your belly. Simple as that.
Is it worth the wait? HECK Yeah. I will say, they actually don't always have a long line, even on weekends. Crowd seems to come in little waves. Sometimes you might actually be lucky and there might only be less than 5 people ahead of you. And sometimes the line actually moves very fast because the large majority of people usually have small-quantity orders. It's really only because of how long they've been around + the internet these days that they're so popular. My family has been eating their putu piring for a long long time, back when a piece was only 50sen—no thanks to inflation and the tourist popularity "tax" these days for its current per piece price unfortunately—and I will say, if nothing else, this spot is THEE most consistent putu piring place I know. Consistent in taste and flavor, and consistent in their business presence & operations longevity.
Best eaten piping hot or at least warm so the gula melaka (coconut palm sugar) is in this caramel-y, slightly gooey state and the outer rice flour pastry is fluffy and the coconut shreds are at its peak freshness. We can't resist not eating it as soon as we get into our cars. It will be slightly messy with the coconut shreds, so get those tissues ready, but trust me, it's worth diving right in if you can. Eat it as soon as possible!
Their gula melaka is primarily why they're so good—it's aromatic and you can still taste the toasty coconut notes in the sugar as you bite into the putu piring. All this since they use their in-house gula melaka (which they also sell in store, right beside their main workstation/steamer) and they don't cheat by using imposter ingredients like brown sugar or a mix of brown sugar and gula melaka to cut costs. No skimping here!
Highly recommended to all - tourists and locals alike!
[They accept e-wallet, and FYI, they no longer take putu piring orders online or through whatsapp anymore since 2023 so you'll just have to walk in and wait like everyone else. First come first served. They also actually sell kaya and that is something that is strictly through pre-order only, you'll have to check their Facebook page for updates and for the weekly...
Read moreDon't come here if you are a responsible tourist! Customers are stopping their car at both sides of the road disrupting traffic badly in this neighbourhood. Putu piring is very normal and people come here just because others come here to que and post on social media. Que time is around 30 - 40 mins which you can better spend elsewhere. Honestly there are much better ones elsewhere. Don't be a follower just because just a few feel it's good, go explore other shops that can do better with your support!
To add i just gotten a very rude reply from the owner. "Thanks hater". What kind of responsible owner is this???!!!. Instead of taking feedback from your customers in good faith to improve, you are replying in such a childish way! You should be thinking of how to improve your customer experience and reduce the time your customers are queing under the sun to pay you for your mediocre peoduct.
Dear owner, regarding your reply that there are other shops in this area is non of your business. You should be taking your customer feedback in good faith and not push your responsibilities away. It's about YOUR customer experience, not your neighbouring shop's customer experience! Go count how many cars are stopping to go buy at your shop. If you as a business owner cannot come up with a solution, such as asking bulk purchase customers to call/whatsapp before hand what more can i say?
Back to your reply, fyi we did got our order and tried it. Why in the world should we be jealous about YOUR business? Btw thanks for being open with your reply it just show your attitude towards your customers. My advice to you is to spend your time to improve from your customer's feedback than to think of how to reply in your sour way. Btw i'm not your competitor.
Dear owner, i'm just a humble customer giving you feedback hoping you will improve. Your business have nothing to do with me so why should i think again please. Your tone of voice in your reply is already showing what kind of person your are.
Thank you for your reply. Now...

After years of craving an authentic Melakan Putu Piring experience, I finally visited this beloved family-run gem—and it did not disappoint! Nestled in the outskirt of Melaka, this humble stall delivers a nostalgic and mouthwatering treat that lives up to its reputation.
Generous with their Gula Melaka: The star of the show here is the gula Melaka (palm sugar). Each bite of the soft, steamed rice cake reveals a molten core of rich, caramel-like sweetness that’s perfectly balanced—never cloying. The family doesn’t skimp on portions, ensuring every piece is packed with that iconic, velvety palm sugar goodness.
Fragrant Pandan Perfection: The pandan leaves woven into the packaging aren’t just for show. Their subtle, floral aroma infuses the Putu Piring, elevating the entire experience. It’s a small detail that speaks volumes about the care put into preserving tradition.
Fresh, Textural Bliss: The grated coconut flakes are a standout—fresh, slightly salty, and delightfully fluffy. They add a satisfying contrast to the soft, warm rice cake and gooey gula Melaka, creating a harmony of textures and flavors.
Warm, Family-Run Charm: The shop’s no-frills setup and warm service make it feel like a hidden treasure. Watching the family craft each Putu Piring with practiced hands adds to the charm, reminding you that this is a recipe perfected over generations.
