I have heard of Five Guys Burger and saw a lot of review. When I saw the outlet in Genting I went on to try to see what the hype was all about. This is my take on the outlet and food:
Customer Service: The service in this restaurant is just like any other fast food restaurant. Nothing extra and nothing special. For a first timer to the outlet, I find the staff is not train to give proper recommendations or suggestions to the customer. I don't know what to order and just went about guessing. Ordered a few burgers with fries and drinks. This restaurant is NOT setup to give service beyond the counter hence don't expect any...once your order is served over the counter you are on your own to figure out what condiments you have and where to get the drinks. The staff is friendly though.
The Food Taste And Price: THIS RESTAURANT CHAIN ONLY SELLS BEEF BURGER AND NO OTHER MEAT. Can't wait to bite into the burger that is claimed as one of the best. The conclusion after the first bite, I can make better beef patties, fries and burger at home for a much much cheaper budget (For the price I am paying I can afford to make Wagyu beef burger) . I have tasted better burgers in other restaurants ie Burger Lab, Burgertory and other Burger specialized restaurants. I cannot subscribe to it being the best burger and fries anywhere but maybe the 6th or 7th best (definitely better than Burger King, McDonald's and Ramly Burger stalls). They have many add ons that comes free with the burger ie lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mushroom, jalapenos, onions and many others but they leave it up to you to mix and match. The good thing is you can make your own burger but the bad thing is you can make an awful tasting burger. They should have some standard add ons that will compliment the star burger patties and make them taste great while leaving options to add to the customer at their own risk. Finally the price of the burger set per person is ridiculously expensive... 1 person with little burger, medium fries and a Coke is RM70... 3 person meal comes up to RM210. It is not even Wagyu beef. As they say if you have to ask the price in this place then you cannot afford it but frankly don't ask and its not worth the price. The only good thing is for RM70 per person you get a free flow of soft drink but how much can you drink right?
Overall: In my opinion the burger is not what it is hyped to be, and it is definitely not the best tasting burger in Malaysia or the world...not even in the US as I have tasted better burgers for a lot cheaper there. Kids friendly environment. Lucky for me when I was ordering when the crowd was not there and don't have to go thru the infamous queue which would have made the experience worse. Nothing to shout about. If you are thinking of tasting go ahead but don't say I didn't warn you and it will leave a big hole in your pocket or...
Read moreOld man does impromptu things, like driving up a mountain to have five guys burger at 5pm. And yes, the hype has died down and you can just walk in .... on a weekday.
On the table is the all in cheeseburger (RM40); and hidden from the table is Vanilla with Oreo chips milkshake (RM25) and Regular fries (RM25). Do the math everyone.
I did not want grilled onions but I forgot to tell them that I do not want any form of onions at all. The cheeseburger comes with double patty served on a sesame bun. You have a choice of going all in, with all toppings or you can choose some if not all. If you aren't a big eater, im suggesting the little burger with just one Patty, I'm guessing. Ok so the question is, was it worth my trip up?
If I think of it as what it originally is then no; at the end of the day it is fast food. Make no qualms about it, to me if you did a blind test, I would 100% tell you that it was Carl's Jr. Even the fries tasted like the original Carl's Jr skin on fries. The taste is so similar that when I think of the price of a double superstar with cheese, I'm left disappointed at five guys worth.
So in order to not feel this way, eat it for what it is. Fast food and not a gourmet burger. Forget the price and just enjoy the free air conditioning of the mountains. Check this off your bucket list and wait for it to be in KL.

Read moreAfter much hype, decided to drag myself up here to give it a try. Yes, no combo meal n the ala carte pricing is not for the unexpected ya. Burger (2 patties) already RM35, tambah cheese saja to the burger already RM45. Taste is ok la but there r 15 toppings to choose from n as a typical cina, i wallop all the fillings which kinda regret coz it makes the burger padat n padu n also a bit wet.
Fries fulamak RM25 beb for a small one BUT they really stuffed a lot lot lot into the bag so really can kenyang just by eating the fries but still not worth it la. Can be a bit salty for some though. N wth no chili sauce la only ketchup? When ask more (reluctantly coz they only give me 2 packet aje? Kedekut betul! Dah la bayau RM25!!), they ask me to try this brown sauce which they say amenda sweet sauce so i tot might bbq sauce la. Astagaaa... the taste already masam2 manis one kind n then got that weird taste of chinese herb medicine that got a pahit taste. Terus reject man!!
Milkshake fulamak katak RM25 beb for a regular cup so i ordered the most worthy one, Oreo crushed. Taste one not bad actually. Reminds me of those good old days McD milkshake; pekat, padat n padu. U will really need to be a really good sucker to enjoy the milkshake 😜.
To me, enuf la try one time saja for a RM85 lunch. Can go eat 2x Triple Prosperity Burger combo at McD some more with balance to go watch movie with...
