It takes a local to come to this little hidden gem in Ipoh. Its signboard is hardly noticeable and the front gate is closed. Diners need to go through the small gate to get into the restaurant. If you are a Chee Cheong Fun die hard fan, then you have come to the right place. The place has been there for quite a number of years already. According to the owner, the grandfather has been making Chee Cheong fun to sell, it is a passed down recipes. They serve quite a variety of chee Cheong fun freshly prepared after the order is placed. There are both vegetarian and non vegetarian options as well. One can choose a variety of sauce ranging from Ipoh style to Penang style. The Chee Cheong Fun texture.was smooth and not too thick. It comes with some crispy bits that goes well with the noodles! The other speciality is the ‘Cai Bao’ with various vegetables where the main ingredient is Sengkuang/Turnip. The skin of the Cai Bao is very thin so you don’t feel you are eating lots of flour, they have done a good job in making the cai bao, reminded me of my mum’s cai bao. They even served it in the sweet version that come with peanut! We also ordered the signature nyonya curry laksa. It comes with plenty of herbs like ginger flowers, lemon grass and mint leaves in a sugar cane based broth. It is pretty unique in its own way. Not the normal nyonya laksa with lots of coconut milk. This one hardly have any coconut milk but just the herbs that crushed and blended into the curry to bring up the fragrance of them all! I would give a thumb up for them for being original and still able to execute the dish well. It is not spicy too if you are not good with spicy food. This place is suitable for vegetarian too. If you are in Ipoh looking for Chee Cheong Fun, this place is...
Read moreI saw their front door and thought it was closed. But it wasn't. This is a home-style restaurant, so it's hard to find a parking space if there are many people. We were lucky to arrive early. The environment inside was very comfortable, maybe it was because there were not many people in the morning.
I ordered their famous three-color Chee Cheong Fen, which tasted good. The most special thing was the Chee Cheong Fen with shrimp paste sauce, which was ok for me but I couldn't eat too much. I will come here again to...
Read moretheir sambal is their 主角, goes well with nasi lemak, CCF and kuihs .. what i recall is their nasi lemak is decently nice and their turnip (sengkuang) CCF.
9 items we ordered, the bill is rm70++ something, not expensive but if you think of eating CCF and the total bill is rm70+, that's like almost cafe price.
will definitely return and recommend this place to friends as most places out there...
