I had the pleasure of trying the famous Ayam Garam Aun Kheng Lim Salted Herbal Bake Chicken and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The chicken was incredibly tender, juicy, and infused with a rich herbal aroma that balanced perfectly with the saltiness of the traditional recipe. The flavors went deep into the meat, making every bite comforting yet full of character. It’s the kind of dish that feels both nourishing and indulgent at the same time, no wonder it’s such a well-loved specialty.
What made the visit even more special was the kindness of the owner. Not only was he warm and welcoming, but she also took the time to let us visit the baking kitchen. It was fascinating to see the traditional process of preparing and baking the chicken, which gave us an even greater appreciation of the hard work and dedication behind this iconic dish. You can really feel the pride and authenticity in every step.
The whole experience felt like more than just a meal , it was a cultural and culinary journey. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Ipoh who wants to taste something authentic, unique, and made with heart. I will definitely...
Read moreIt has been years since I have had salt baked chicken and had to stop by this famous shop to try the much raved salt baked chicken. Totally no regrets.
I took a Grab and made a pit stop quick dash in and out of the shop to pick up the chicken. There were 2 persons in the queue and that moved very quickly. The staff were very efficient. The shop has pre-packed the chickens ready to go and patrons have the option of heated or chilled chicken to go. There isnt a dine in option for this shop. Payment is only by cash.
The chicken was succulent, tender, and juicy. It was infused with a rich herbal aroma + flavour that just waft through the air when the packet of chicken was opened. I love the slices of dongkwai herbs slipped into different parts of the chicken. The herb really further enhanced the flavour of the salt baked chicken. It is possible for the whole chicken to be eaten by a single individual in a single seating. Otherwise, good for sharing too.
All in all, it is a unique and amazing traditional food to enjoy. I recommend anyone who is thinking of...
Read moreBest salted chicken that I know since more than 15 years ago (pretty much even before I was born 22 years ago from my parents). The very foundation of this salted chicken can be used to many areas other than just eating it. My mom loves to use the bones to make chicken stock which, believe me, it is a lot tastier and stronger than your normal chicken stock. For me, I would steam the chicken to get more sauce, then keep the sauce somewhere and use it to cook rice which is also very nice.
Overall, I don't have any complaints with the chicken itself, but I do have some trigger point with the price. 10 years ago it's less than RM20, before and during MCO (from 2 to 3 phase) it was around RM25/26, which is fine. But now in 2022 they increased it to RM30 for 1 salted chicken, which is sad considering how I love their chicken but there's only so much I could afford. But if you have no limits on that area, just spend it, I would guarantee you'll not be...
