This is a little hidden gem I found in Ipoh. It is located nearer to the bridge and away from the busy strips of the tourist area. Hosted by a couple and just a helper, the pace of the shop seems to blend in well with the quiet surrounding. Tony, the shop owner, who was a national swimmer had all his proud moments being displayed on the walls of the cafe. The specialities of the shop is its unique nyonya curry that has it own distinctive aromatic taste. I liked it as it is not too spicy nor too rich. Making it perfect for breakfast. It was served with roast pork and chicken. I can even taste the charcoal taste in the roast pork. One can also order extra cockles to go with it. The Ipoh sar hor fun was served with its home cooked broth that combined chicken bone and pork bone with a slight whitish color. The other notable dish is the pork lard rice with egg. It is very tasty indeed. They also offer pork balls and other side dishes to go with the curry Mee or Sar hor Fun. They served Kopi/Teh with kuai Len gao which is pretty unique combination. The coffee is of decent quality. They also served various desserts like creme caramel egg custard and Logan tofu. The shop has a very high ceiling with fans. So the cafe is pretty relaxing and comfy place to hand out. This is a place I will come back again and again for its good food, relaxing atmosphere and...
Read moreFirst of all the atmosphere is very cozy and location wise is not at the "tourist" area. The outlet is very clean and hygiene too. As for the food, can't complaint anything so far. The dry curry noodle is awesome, really need to order if you do visit Ipoh. To me better than those usual dry curry noodle you find in Ipoh and KL too. Mine added the "siew yok" and came with slice of chicken, char siew and siew yok. Add some lime juice and the entire meal changes and it's superb. The beansprout is as usual in Ipoh, fat and juicy, can go wrong with it. The chicken drumstick was very tender too and skin is smooth, perfect as a side dish. Order the kopi "guilingkoa" ice which is a first and was surprise taste good too. Overall, this is a stop for breakfast or lunch if one is to visit Ipoh, definitely won't regret it. Was lucky to have randomly find this place as wanted to try out of the "tourist" spot. Glad I did. Highly recommended and oh the boss mentioned their curry recipe has been handed down for 100 years. Glad the recipe is not lost.. Haha. And lastly their service is excellent from workers to the boss, very friendly and even explained...
Read moreCurry Keng is one of those places you need to go if you love your noodles spicy with a kick.
When you walk into the restaurant, the aroma of the sambal greets you, only to be followed by the friendly shop owner. They always get the order right, food service is quick and prompt, and they've always obliged me with the extra little bits of sambal.
The curry has a dash of sour/ lime to it (just the way I like it), the kuey teow is the typical smooth Ipoh hor fun. A soft fluffy kuey teow that melts in the mouth combined with a fantastic curry paste, not sure what else one can ask for.
It's not the cheapest curry noodles in ipoh, but it's not excessive or unreasonable. For the high quality of food, the price commanded is well worth every penny.
I've been a loyal customer for many years. Despite moving out of Ipoh, I've still frequented this wonderful establishment every time I'm back in town.
Congratulations to this wonderful restaurant, keep up the wonderful food and atmosphere. If you're reading this and decide to drop by Ipoh, don't forget to check this place off your...
