It's bound to happen. That is the discovery of a nasi kandar from Ipoh that doesn't suck. The standard basic package of nasi kandar Ipoh includes a piece of fried chicken in a spicy onion red sauce, a piece of ladyfinger, half of salted duck eggs and some cucumber slices, doused in a mixture of curries, the red sauce and a dollop of what was called sambal. The chicken is smokey and dry which loses points in texture but gains from taste with a good spice level but slightly less salt than what I want while the curry was fine, all within a plate of slightly firm rice. I find the sambal distracts the taste of nasi kandar. The fish roe was good but then again you need to be exceptionally or intentionally bad to mess that up but I find the beef to a tad tougher than expected while the taste is not pronounced enough. Long queues during lunchtime and I find the price to be acceptable and within the surrounding.

Taste factor: 6.4/10 Return factor: Wouldn't be a bad lunch around this area but skip the beef and get the...

Alright Nasi Kandar lovers, listen up! If you're in Ipoh and itching for that real deal northern Nasi Kandar taste, you have to hit up Nasi Kandar Dato Sagor. Seriously, it's like they airlifted a spot from Penang and dropped it right here.

The moment you walk in, your nose knows – those curry smells are the real MVP! 🤤 They've got all the good stuff, and the best part? That gravy, oh man, the gravy! It's pure "kuah banjir" perfection that'll make your tastebuds do a happy dance.

I went for the classic fried chicken and a half-boiled egg, drowned in all their delicious mixed gravies. Every bite was pure bliss and felt just like home (if your home is in the north, that is!).

This place totally nails the authentic Nasi Kandar experience. So skip the guessing game and just go here for your fix. You won't...

If you’re in the heritage town and craving authentic Nasi Kandar, this hidden gem is a must try! Their trademark chicken is hands down the best tender, full of flavor, and perfectly spiced. I love the spicy kick in their dishes, and it’s clear I’m not the only one lots of locals eat here, which says a lot about the quality. The only downside is the parking, which is always packed, but honestly, the food is worth the trouble. A true local favorite that delivers on...
