If you're looking for an authentic banana leaf rice experience, Restoran Rajes is a hidden gem that delivers both quality and variety. This review will walk you through what makes this restaurant special.
The Banana Leaf Set: The star of the show is their original banana leaf rice set. The moment your food arrives on the fresh banana leaf, you know you're in for a treat. The rice is perfectly cooked, and the way they present the food on the leaf is both traditional and appetizing.
Variety of Options: What sets Rajes apart is their impressive variety of side dishes and curries. Each visit can be a new experience as you mix and match different combinations. They offer: Multiple curry options Various vegetable dishes Different types of papadam Fresh chutneys and pickles Range of protein options (fish, chicken, mutton)
Taste and Flavors: The food here is what we'd call "soul food" - it's comforting, flavorful, and satisfying. Each curry has its own distinct taste, and the spices are well-balanced. The vegetables are fresh and perfectly cooked, maintaining their texture while absorbing the flavors of the spices.
Atmosphere: The restaurant has a welcoming vibe that adds to the dining experience. While it maintains the casual feel of a typical banana leaf restaurant, it's clean and well-organized. The bustling atmosphere adds to the authentic dining experience.
Service: The staff is attentive and happy to explain different dishes to newcomers. They're quick to refill your sides and ensure your banana leaf is never empty.
Value for Money: Given the quantity and quality of food served, the prices are very reasonable. The portions are generous, and you can always ask for refills of vegetables and curry. Tips for First-Time Visitors:
Try the original banana leaf set as your base Don't hesitate to ask for explanations about different dishes Feel free to request refills of vegetables and curry Try eating with your hands for the authentic experience (though spoons are available)
Best Time to Visit: For the best experience, try to arrive during regular meal times when the food is freshest. Lunch hours are typically the busiest but also when you'll find the full range of dishes available.
Conclusion: Restoran Rajes offers more than just a meal - it's a complete dining experience. Whether you're a banana leaf rice veteran or trying it for the first time, you'll appreciate the variety, quality, and soul they put into their food. It's a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience authentic Indian cuisine in a welcoming environment.

Read moreWe came back to this restaurant on Feb 24, 2023 after having a good time here.
However, we were disappointed this time, compared to 8 months ago.
The place didn't seem to be as crowded as before and we found out why.
The food quality deteriorated. My friend had a fish which was not properly marinaded and it turned out tasteless and it was also dry. We found ourselves very thirsty after our lunch so we suspect there's lots of MSG. We didn't have this problem before.
On our way out to the cashier, we found the lady boss quarreled with a customer. Customer was complaining about overcharges.
We will not recommend this place any longer.
A friend recommended this place to us so we came here for lunch on Jun 30, 2022.
Parking was quite limited and it seemed to be a rather popular restaurant. There were 13 of us and we all had banana leaf meals so we can get refills of the side dishes and rice. The place can be quite crowded around noon.
Although generally the food is tasty and the service was friendly and efficient, a few of us who had eaten similar dishes at Kuala Lumpur fine the meat rather dry and a number of the side dishes, like curry a bit diluted.
Comparing the prices with that of similar dishes at Sungai Siput, a few of the friends said that prices are cheaper at Sungai Siput and therefore not worth it.
The variety of available dishes however was quite good though.
The toilet facilities was...
Read moreWent to this shop as it was on the way . Didn't have high expectations as we never heard of this restaurant before however the food selection and ambiance was way better than any I dian restaurant in ipoh area.
Food : the food selection was huge. Way more than any Indian restaurant in ipoh . The vegetables are self scoop but the non-vegetarian item have been pre-scooped into containers and labelled with price. It was very convenient to select the dishes that you want and you already know the price .
Price : the price was reasonable for the location and ambiance. It was not cheap but not expensive either. For non Veg item the item have been priced so you will be able to decide if its expensive or not.
Ambiance : the shop is well decorated and clean. The chairs were comfortable and not to hot. There were sitting area upstairs and private room . We ate downstairs so not sure of the sitting arrangement upstairs.
Parking: the parking space will be an issue. There is no dedicated parking area. You need to park along the road . And the parking space are limited .
Overall : highly recommended
