I heard that this is supposedly one of the origins of white coffee. Not sure how true it is, I'll let the public and locals decide on this, since I'm a mere foodie, not a historian.
Anyhow! Came for the coffee, and was shocked at the hugeeeeeeee crowd. So it has to be good with that many people willingly stand around waiting for a chance to get a seat, tho some would also come here mainly for the takeaway. Take heed my fellow tourists, not everyone here is the friendly time, mostly still are. I say this cuz seats and space is fairly limited, so most would be happy to share a table with you. Some however are utterly rude enough to take up the biggest table with only 3 people, and are unwilling to share, with the audacity to say "we have too many people". Do what you ought to wish to be treated. So be friendly to others to allow them to share some space with you, it won't kill you. Be a better example over the deplorables.
Anyhow, enough of my rants. Time to fulfil my job as a foodie.
Coffee, very nice and fragrant, I can somewhat comprehend what all the fuss is about.
Dim sum. Most of it taste fairly good or average. BUT!!! The egg tart and the glutinous rice with chicken are a definitely must. You can do takeaways for these, if you don't really fancy to wait for a seat. I'd happily come back to Ipoh again, just for these and these only.
Rice noodle soup, or "hor fun" as they would say it. Very light, yet flavourful. If you don't want a heavy meal, go for this.
Poh piah. Has a very unusual sauce latter on it. I personally find it rather...
Read morePopular place for breakfast, lunch and brunch in Ipoh. Mainly popular among the demographic that were brought up in ipoh but left it to work and live else where and returning to this place just for the nostalgic value (at least that's my opinion), because food and drink are average at best, however table service is quick and cost post-pandemic is hardly a topic to debate as prices for most commodity and essentials have increased to almost 120%. The place is busy and tables are scarcely available. Sharing table with strangers is not new for Asians and we honestly don't mind. (hinting to the fact that you must share the table with strangers most of the time, unless you go with a large enough group where you monopolise the table you're occupying). (Sharing is caring). Wanton mee, char kuey teow and they bunch, dim sum, egg tart is very popular as you can see in the picture attached, the crust is very thin with large amount of egg custard. However, you don't have to feel down if you don't get a place to sit here, as there are two more coffee shop options available just across the small street, albeit you've to sacrifice the dim sum and egg tart sold at nam heong. Solution? Dapau lah... Then order drinks and additional food in the alternative coffee shop. Or just dapau and sit at the basketball court next to nam heong, provided you clean yourself afterwards. (picture of basketball court attached. Praise the uncle. He's fulfilling his duty to the environment by...
