Silky-smooth, fragrant and piping-hot tau fu fa, made fresh daily and served with a smile, occasionally with a joke or two thrown in for good measure. Much like the other, more well-known tau fu fa place in the town centre, tau fu fa here melts beautifully in the mouth with no grainy textures or sour aftertastes. Unlike their touristy cousin however, they still give generous portions (you won't have to eat two bowls to satisfy your craving). We abandoned that other place years ago when we discovered that we could get twice the amount of an equally good product for nearly the same price!
We have been fans of Aunty and her team's tau fu fa for several years, since the time they were helming Woong Kee just around the corner. This new place of theirs is larger, airier, and more comfortable than their old home, but their tau fu fa remains the same, and so has their warm, down-to-earth and helpful demeanour.
Bring a cooler box if you plan to take some soy milk home with you, as theirs has no added preservatives and will only last 2-3 hours out of the fridge (tau fu fa can keep up to 6 hours outside if nothing is added to it). On this visit we simply handed them our box, which they proceeded to carefully pack with our soy milk bottles, submerged in ice (did I mention the fantastic service?) - at no extra charge. Both soy milk and the five containers of tau fu fa we tapau-ed survived the 3-hour journey home in perfect condition.
Happy to see their popularity growing, even if it means longer queues. Some have complained about the (10-15 min) wait, but hey, this is Ipoh, where the queue for kaya puffs can take an hour, and that for fried noodles can take two. Good food takes time, people.
Please don't go anywhere, Aunty. We'll be back to...
Read moreIf you’re craving silky-smooth, melt-in-your-mouth beancurd (tau fu fah), Woong Kee Beancurd is a must-visit. This humble dessert spot specializes in traditional soy-based treats, served the old-school way—warm or chilled, with just the right amount of sweetness.
Signature Beancurd (Tau Fu Fah) – The star of the show! Silky, custard-like texture with a delicate soy flavor. Served with light syrup or ginger-infused sugar water for a refreshing touch. Soy Milk (Hot/Cold) – Creamy and fragrant, perfect as a drink.
It is unbelievably smooth, almost like pudding, with no graininess.
The syrup isn’t overpowering, letting the natural soy flavor shine.
Affordable & Quick – A comforting dessert that’s easy on the wallet and ideal for a quick stop.
The shop is no-frills —just simple stools and a nostalgic vibe. Service is fast, and the beancurd is freshly made daily. If you’re a fan of traditional desserts, this place is a hidden gem.
Best enjoyed fresh and warm for the ultimate comfort. Try it with extra ginger syrup if you love a little spicy kick.
Woong Kee Beancurd is one of the best tau fu fah spots around — simple, authentic, and consistently delicious. A must-try for...
Read moreHands down to the best tau fu fah and customer service in town! This place needs no introduction as it attracts loyal patrons of both local and tourist.
The tau fu fah is served with either white sugar, ginger or brown sugar syrup - your choice. One can only opt to complement the tau fu fah with toppings such as red bean, peanut and grass jelly.
Customer service is consistently top notch. The ladies and gents operating the stall are always courteous and friendly (no single air of arrogance despite the good business). They do ask if you are packing the tau fu fah for the road, as they will pack the syrup separately and advise you on how to best to retain its freshness - they care.
My take: I will still braze the heat and queue to get my fix when I am in Ipoh town (again and again) because they (the tau fu fah and people operating the stall) are...
