Expect huge long crowds outside the place. Rather than standing to queue, you can straight go get your number first then sit around outside as you wait your number called by the staff. The staff were fast and efficient. I waited only about 20mins arriving 11am on Friday. They’re like traditional dim sum style that serving each table asking and explaining what they have in tray so there’s no need to walk around as inside the table are packed. Here’s what we tried :
Hokkaido Scallop Siu Mai ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Not only it is pleasing to the eyes, the scallops texture is nice and springy!
Shrimp Siu Mai ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It’s quite big sized with springy shrimp on top. The meat underneath texture not hard or have any pork odour at all.
Pan Fried Dumplings ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Crispy skin underneath, the fillings are fused with ginger giving it a warming flavour.
Portuguese Egg Tart ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The egg is thick, silky smooth and the skin is flaky and full of nice buttery aroma!
Deep Fried Fish Balls ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent fish balls! It’s not fishy and the texture is so springy!
6.Crystal Shrimp Dumplings ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Big in size, the shrimp is fresh and delicious.
Siu Mai ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Also big in size, meat texture is good and no odour.
Glutinous Rice with Dried Shrimp & Crab Meat ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This dish rather special despite the outlook simple. The fried dried shrimp really well coated the glutinous rice with its rice aroma and the crab meat given quite generous too! It’s a dish I would be craving for more.
Yong Tau Foo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The gravy is well balanced with the fish paste in it.
Japanese Style Shrimp Roll with Century Egg ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Crispy thin skin with fragrant of century egg with shrimp and pork meat.
Shrimp Roll ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Perfect classics! The shrimp in it aren’t small too.
Snow Skin Fruit Whipped Cream ⭐️⭐️ We get it under recommendations of the staff saying it’s their shop signature specials and it changes time to time depends on fruit freshness and availability. Not only it’s quite pricey, the fillings are just whipped cream with very few pieces of small fruit cubes. Not that impressed.
Overall their portion size dim sum quite big and they’re quite creative too. Would loved to come back to try more! Expect loud chatty noise like pasar as it is a very happening places visited by local and...
Read moreYum Cha House Dim Sum in Ipoh has been around for quite some time . It’s often packed with people, especially during long weekends or public holidays—so much so that I usually skip it to avoid the queue. But this time, I decided to give it a try and see what the hype was about.
The dim sum selection is extensive, with a variety of both classic and unique items—some of which you won’t typically find in your average dim sum restaurant. It’s refreshing to see them trying new variations beyond the usual offerings.
In terms of service, I found the staff to be quite attentive and responsive, even during busy periods, which is always appreciated in a fast-paced setting like this.
As for the food, the taste is on standard—satisfying and enjoyable, though not particularly extraordinary. It gets the job done if you’re craving dim sum, but don’t expect a mind-blowing experience.
One thing to note is the price for premium items. Some dishes, like the abalone dim sum and fish, are priced as high as RM25 each, which can be surprising if you’re not aware—so it’s a good idea to ask about prices before ordering to avoid any shocks on the bill.
Additionally, it would be great if the restaurant could offer some meatless or vegetarian options. This would make it more inclusive, especially for vegetarians who want to catch up with friends but may not be comfortable with the food that offering.
The biggest downside during my visit was the ventilation or air-conditioning system. The blower was extremely strong where we were seated, causing paper liners under the buns (pau) to fly around, which was both distracting and a bit unhygienic. It’s definitely something the management should look into to improve the...
Read moreLook, my favourite dim sum places have all been given away to tourists, so it's time to look for a new place.
Yum Cha House is the new kid that gets packed in the mornings, so off I went. At 8am on a weekday it was nearly full so do come early. The staff are quick to take your order, serve tea, and bring trays of dim sum for your choosing.
The dim sum tastes good, if a bit on the saltier side. Prawns are fresh with wonderful texture, while the scallops are large and tastes fresh too. Fried dim sum is light, fluffy and not overly oily.
The shock came when paying the bill. My dim sum was on average RM8.40 a plate which was already on the high side. Then one particular plate was RM25 which was confirmed to be the scallop one so please, buyer beware. The server failed to warn me about the price which I feel is warranted because it cost 3x more than the rest of my dim sum.
Twenty five ringgit. Twenty five smackeroos. USD5.50. For two scallops, two broccoli florettes, and two squished siew mai. That's two full meals elsewhere. That's a Nando's chicken meal. That's a main course at that value-for-money western place you like. Wowza, what a gut punch.
So my summary, good taste but a tad salty, good environment, good service, but I'll never come again because they operate a business...
