Ipoh has always been a foodie haven, and I recently stumbled upon a real gem that deserves to be shouted about: The Nation Eatery. I popped in for a late lunch and was blown away by the innovative menu and the explosion of flavors. I decided to try their Nasi Kerabu Fusion, or as it's called on the menu, the "Blue Breeze." Let me tell you, it was absolutely divine. I've had my fair share of nasi kerabu, but this was hands-down the best fusion version I've ever tasted.
The rice itself was a vibrant blue, naturally colored using butterfly-pea flowers, turmeric, and a medley of herbs. It was clear from the first bite that there were no artificial colors or flavorings – just pure, authentic goodness. The dish came with marinated tiger prawns and chicken masala, both of which were incredibly flavorful. I later learned from the head chef that the meats are marinated in nine different herbs, freshly prepared for each order. You could taste the freshness and the care that went into the preparation. The prawns were succulent, and the chicken was tender and packed a flavorful punch.
The entire menu was bursting with creative dishes that showcased local flavors in exciting new ways. It's clear that the chef has a real passion for food and a talent for combining ingredients in unexpected and delicious ways. To quench my thirst on a hot Ipoh afternoon, I ordered the Grapefruit Orange Soda. It was incredibly refreshing and tasted completely homemade, the perfect complement to the rich flavors of the Nasi Kerabu.
The Nation Eatery is a true find. It's the kind of place that deserves to be packed every day & night. If you're in Ipoh and looking for a truly memorable dining experience, this place is a must-visit. It's no longer a hidden gem – it's a star waiting to shine. I’ll definitely...
Read moreWe had an absolutely wonderful family gathering at The Nation Eatery… a total of 15 of us, and every single person left smiling, full, and satisfied. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance immediately stood out..clean, calming, and filled with beautiful touches like glass jars of live plants that gave the place a fresh and aesthetic vibe. It was the perfect spot for a family get-together .. spacious enough for large groups, yet still cozy and comfortable.
Now let’s talk about the food .. simply outstanding! The signature nasi lemak was a true showstopper. Fragrant green rice, perfectly crispy chicken, sambal that was just the right balance of spicy and savoury, and that egg on top.. absolutely delicious. Every bite was well thought out and full of flavour.
And the matcha drink? Easily one of the best matchas we’ve ever had ..creamy, earthy, smooth, and served in a beautiful textured glass that made it all the more enjoyable. You can tell they use high-quality matcha, and it’s brewed with care.
We also tried a hearty vegetable curry, packed with vibrant, fresh veggies and a rich, aromatic gravy.. comforting and deeply satisfying.
What truly impressed us was not just the taste but also the presentation and consistency across every dish. Despite having a large group, all meals were served promptly, hot, and without a single hiccup. That says a lot about the efficiency and hospitality of the staff.
Overall, The Nation Eatery exceeded expectations. Whether you’re coming for a solo treat, a date, or a large family gathering..you’ll find great food, a warm atmosphere, and thoughtful service here. Highly...
