So, Ipoh's Tuck Kee makes it's presence in Petaling Jaya. And it's been drawing in crowds since it's opening everyday. The opening hours don't help much in easing the crowds as well, since it only opens from 5pm till midnight everyday.
I have been eating in the original Tuck Kee in Ipoh since I was a wee toddler, so naturally, I have some reference point (through memory) of what things should taste like, so I was naturally curious. Everybody raves about the soy sauce octopus, and I must say it's not bad, it's a little "watered down" In taste when compared with the original, but it's not bad.
The Hokkien fried noodles and the Wat Tan Hor were also passable, though it wasn't exactly "blow your socks off" good. There are better ones around KL which would beat this place hands down.
The Damansara Jaya are is replete with two other Hokkien Mee outlets, namely Damansara Hokkien Mee and the other is Tiong Hokkien Mee. Both are worthy of mention as well as they serve pretty good fare too.
Would I recommend this place? Yes. Just to give it a try and see for yourself. It's not one of those "drop dead also must go"...
Read morePretty solid slightly above average spot for fried noodles and rice dishes overall in klang valley. I particularly liked their self served sambal chilli and their cantonese fried ying yeong.
Cantonese fried ying yeong portion was massive for a 1pax serving. Enjoyed the very crispy deep fried thin mee hoon that was crunchy but not overly darkened and charred from deep frying. Gravy was alright, good enough pairing with the smokey hor fun as well but could be more thick and starchier for my liking just a tad bit. For the portion and price at uptown it’s kinda close to almost a no brainer. 3.9/5
Yangzhou fried rice was also massive with its portion size with tonnes of rice. Very applaudable was the fried rice was smokey and flavoured but not oily/greasy especially after being served and was placed cold, the bottom of the dish isn’t just laced with grease and oil which a lot places are. However this makes it just a tad bit too dry to my liking. But overall still decent vessel to pair with their sambal chilli. 3.7/5
Would come back here again to try their hokkien mee noodles for the final...
Read moreor the benefit of sharing my opinion.
To start of, I am here actually mainly for the octopus and fish noodles. Which unfortunately, was unavailable as it's a Sunday and it's hard to beat the line to something which ranks top of their menu.
Hence, gulping my disappointment I moved to the other usual recommendations on their menu.
Deep fried chicken wing - Crispy but flavor is not sipped all the way into the chicken.
Kam Heong Lala - It's nice. But portion was quite little for RM18.
Moonlight Noodle - Noodles are soft and nice. Texture a little bit too watery. Flavor is mediocre as you can tell it does not have ample "wok hei".
Lor Mee - Broth is lacking taste. Bland and noodles are little undercooked.
Don't get me wrong. The food was not horrible. It was overall pretty acceptable.
But think about this. In this location in a less that 5km vicinity around this area, the have to be at least 10 other spots that kicks bigger axx than this. Actually if you know this area, you can actually walk for 5 minutes to 2 other outlets and get a better deal. So what are we actually doing lining...
