Got to say we are severely disappointed. For the price you would expect higher quality food and better service.
The mushroom soup with garlic bread was served lukewarm. It was also served with less than half the bowl filled. The soup itself was lumpy and tasted flat. The garlic bread was bland and tasteless.
The ribeye steak was decent (not great but acceptable) but the side dishes were sorely lacking.
The spring chicken tasted average with the sauce being on the sweet side. The chicken was also served barely warm. The accompanying side salad of carrots and broccoli were too raw and crunchy. The wedges were however tasty and on point.
Overall, service was severely lacking. Getting the attention of the wait staff was not so easy. However, it is noted that the place is large and well spaced out thus it may be harder to notice. We were not seated at an obscure corner though.
The steak arrived far earlier than the chicken. My friend almost finished his steak meal when the chicken finally arrived. He ended up having to wait for me to finish my meal while I hurried through it. Our drinks were also forgotten until we reminded them about it.
Suggestions for improvement:
better coordination needed in the kitchen. For a restaurant with this price point, they need to serve table main meals together as best they can.
staff needs to be trained to be more mindful and attentive.
the kitchen has an open concept as such better SOP is needed - most if not all of the kitchen staff / chefs were unmasked. Even the wait staff/ drinks bar crew were mostly wearing masks below their chins or improperly. Only noticed one or two of the women servers wearing masks properly.
Please ensure food is served as soon as it’s ready- boils down to coordination again. I presume the food may have been left at counter for some time hence why it’s served barely warm.
the side salad needs a big improvement - please blanch a little longer.
either fill up the soup bowl decently or serve it in a smaller bowl. It’s better than serving a shallow layer of soup.
Hope that they take these feedback with an open mind as it is sincere. With the prices they charge, they need to...
Read moreOn Sept 10th, I ordered 2 wagyu MB 8-9 for around RM300++ each (around 220g++ each) Pros: the marbling on the steaks were good, and the weight and price for each piece was clearly stickered on.
Cons: The wagyu was thin, around 1cm thick. There wasn't a smaller sized piece with a thicker cut, maybe half inch or 1 inch. This part is a deal-breaker. They took the wagyu steak directly from the cooler and cooked it, seemingly WITHOUT letting it come up to room temp. Why do I say this? We picked out the meat from the display fridge, then requested for it to be cooked medium-rare, then walked to our table, looked at the menu to order appetizers and drinks, knowing that it may take a minimum 10-15mins for the steak to come up to room temp, before a competent chef can even begin to think about cooking it. We ordered our appetizer and drinks, and the steaks came out literally less than 1 minute after ordering appetizers. We cut into it, only to discover that while the outside has got that proper crusting, the inside was NOT pink but still dark red. How did this happen? Because the steaks were thin, they need to be cooked like a minute steak, quick sear on both sides. But because the steaks were still refrigerator-cold, the center was not cooked, only barely coming up to room temp in that flash sear. This was the first time in my life I got food poisoning from undercooked RM300++ wagyu steak. I have an MC to prove it.
It's a shame really. The front-of-house was courteous, friendly and attentive. This was wiped out by an inexperienced and incompetent back-of-house that has no business handling something as precious as a piece of wagyu, and treating it right.
Conclusion: I'm not angry, I'm sad and disappointed. Will never set foot here again until they can prove that they can cook...
Read moreBrowsing the menu at the Manate, I was immediately drawn to the picture of the BBQ lamb shank. It looked so tempting, I knew I had to try it! The friendly staff member, Ain, greeted me warmly and explained their unique system: you need to select your own meat from a chiller near the entrance for the kitchen to prepare.
However, the idea of getting up and leaving my table to choose the meat, laden down with bags and a laptop, during the busy lunch rush was not ideal (Haha 😂 well, let's just say my inner laziness kicked in). Luckily, Ain pointed out their set lunch menu, offering a perfect solution.
Since I prefer mild flavours, Ain patiently helped me choose a dish. She recommended the creamy curry seafood pasta, currently on a tempting 50% discount! To my surprise, the pasta was delicious! Rich and creamy with a delightful curry aroma + generous portion of seafood – three prawns, four mussels, and four squid rings. The finishing touch of chili flakes, fried curry leaves and dried shrimp added a delightful depth of flavour.
Thanks to Ain's thoughtful recommendation and friendly service, my lunch break was a delightful experience. 👍 Her attentiveness and helpfulness made a real difference. Well done, Ain and the Menate team! 👏 Keep up the fantastic work. 💪
I can't wait to visit Menate again soon! Next time, I'll bring my family members to try the other delicious dishes, including that tempting BBQ lamb shank (without the lunchtime juggling act, of...
