When Extra Super Tanker moved to the new Glo Damansara, I wonder what would happen to the previous outlet - it was left idle until one day, I noticed a new restaurant opened for business. Quick check revealed that it was from the same people behind the popular Chinese restaurant in Damansara.
FYI - I've come here 3 times in a space of 2 months. What I like about this restaurant is that they serve food which is cheaper compared to the one in Glo Damansara, and for now they are still not as packed as the latter. Do check out on their blackboard for special menu and call to pre-book (yes some dishes have to pre-book).
Regular dishes ◾fried squid rojak - if you love rojak, you will love this version.. using fried squid, it's like combining 2 dishes in one. ◾Stir fried long beans with salted egg yolk ◾Chinese spinach soup (siong tong yin choy) ◾Siong tong lala - slightly spicy to provide kick to the soup ◾Braised minced pork on top of bean curd on top of Chinese steamed egg.. minced pork was a thumb up from all of us, coupled with silky smooth taufu and the perfectly steamed egg. ◾Asam prawns with petai - a bit too salty than I prefer but overall tasted good.
Special dishes (subject to availability) ◾金秋鸭 - salty brined duck ◾Chef special roasted duck - just like regular roasted duck but sleeping on top of special dark sauce ◾红烧排骨 - akin to dong po yuk but using pork ribs instead, the sauce was a hit with all of us.. we even lapped the plate clean with the steamed man tao. ◾客家炸肉 - not a regular in their menu, the elderly said that this was one of the best he had. He's a Hakka and when a Hakka praises it, it must be very good. I thought that it was quite good too, similar to the one I had in Raub.
You won't find the name "Sweet Freedom" when you reach the restaurant. But if you know the previous flagship restaurant of Extra Super Tanker in Damansara Kim, then...
Read moreMet up with my 2 good friends this morning around 1130am for dim sum. It was raining heavily when I reached the shop. I wanted to bring in my umbrella but I was not allowed to do so and I was asked to leave it in a container next to the main entrance. The food was overall not bad. All was good till the part when I wanted to collect my umbrella. To my dismay, my favourite umbrella was gone. Hence I asked the staff about it. 4 staff came to me but eventually they just walked off. Then I walked into the restaurant to ask for the Supervisor/Manager. He came out and talked to me and told me that this area was not under their management. Thereafter he told me in Cantonese that he needed to go back to work. He walked away from me 2 steps and he said this loudly in Cantonese "Choi lay tak ngong" - it simply means "I am not so free to entertain you". Omg, what type of services is this!! No. 1 - You did not even apologise to me. No. 2 - How can you just walk away just like that?. I am totally disappointed with the treatment given to me. I hope the Management will look into this matter seriously. Your staff need to go for retraining in how to serve your...
Read more2nd visit to this restaurant, 1st visit we just ordered their noodle dishes which is quite expensive and turn out to be so so. So we decided to give it a 2nd try on their main dishes, surprising it was really yummy.
Had their salted egg prawn at rm35 and claypot tofu at rm20. We were thinking maybe their prawn only comes in 5 pieces or small size 🦐, it turns out to be 7 piece, big size and fresh and the coating of the salted egg yolk is perfect. I find it better than Din Tai Fung and also not oily. Rm35 is definitely worth as prawn dishes around PJ already increase price up to Rm38-50.
The claypot tofu comes with roast pork too surprisingly and the sauce is really good. Looking forward to try their other dishes in a family group next time.
We just dine in at Extra super tanker at glo damansara the night before. Waiting time over there is super long but this outlet at damansara Kim is very fast. Thumbs up
Update : 11/4/23 (3rd visit) Salt and pepper squid wasn't good and portion was very small, salted egg prawn standard dropped and the color looks darker, braised pork with steam bun and mutton claypot...
