DISHONEST UNETHICAL STAFF
this place is a rip off! Make sure you ask for the sang har mee prawn price before ordering or you’ll be slapped with a fat bill 💸
Went to this place a week prior for the first time and loved the food there. The manager who took my order for sang har mee recommended that 1 big prawn is more than enough for 2 pax. At that point I paid RM136.50 for 1 large prawn cut into half and it was perfect. Prawn and noodle portion was big enough for 2 pax. Although abit steep, but taste and portion justified the price.
Today I returned after 1 week with one extra guest. Served by a different lady, this time she recommended that for 3 pax, we should order 3 small prawns as it’s much smaller and will be good for each person. So in my mind, great. 1 large for 2 pax, but 3 small for 3 pax. Expecting the bill to be around RM200 perhaps. But guess what, the sang har mee bill came up to RM292.50 for 3 pax! More than double of what I paid for for 2 pax! The three small prawns were not small at all and in fact it looked almost identical to the large prawn I had the week before. This RM292.50 sang har mee could easily feed 6 pax instead of three.
I know sang har mee is expensive in general, but to advise me to order 3 supposedly small size prawn which turns out to be rather big prawns, I think it’s not very ethical of them. She could have suggested just 2 prawns instead rather than 3.
I did leave the restaurant on our sour note as I felt taken advantage of. Lady who took the order was not honest or ethical when suggesting portion size and only wanted to make more money out of customer. Very disappointed. Will not be returning in future.
For future patrons of this restaurant, I suggest that you clarify the weight and price of the prawn before ordering the sang har mee here. Otherwise you will be slaughtered...

Individual ratings:
(a) Yam basket with dry chilli chicken - great texture of yam paired nicely with spicy chicken (b) Braised soft bone pork rib with yam - the best of the night (though adding some solid pieces of yam would have elevated the dish) (c) braised homemade bean curd with petola - normal (d) garlic stir fried choy sum - normal (e) assam nyonya squid - good (f) fried mah yau with plum sauce - ok
Now, the dish that deserves a para by itself: freshwater prawn noodles (sang har meen). It is their signature dish - the ONE that identifies this restaurant. We ordered 6 large prawns to be shared by the 12 of us. (Well, only Jho Low can afford one prawn each for himself and Paris Hilton, if she is not allergic to crustaceans). I have had this dish a few times here. The standard for tonight slipped a bit - noodles could have been crispier and the sauce was a bit bland and lacked the umami I was expecting. The prawns were exceptionally fresh though. Like eating the best lobster. No doubt the sang har meen is a showstopper if you want to impress any diner. But for the price ( RM700 which swallowed more than 1/2 our bill) many would be put off, incIuding me. if the occasion is befitting for this showstopper, why not? But you have been forewarned...
Otherwise, the food was typically Malaysian Chinese bits of everything with spicy options thrown in. It is a nice place to bring your guests too. It got a 5 star rating for service for remembering that I asked about wheelchair access and they reserved a parking lot for me to get unfettered access...
Read moreWe walked over after discovering there was more than an hour's waiting queue at some dim sum shop located at the other end of the lot. Well no loss as this long-in-tooth Cantonese styled fine cuisine made for a more significant and meaningful New Year luncheon meal experience. Points for the crew within for making available a table for ten within a short period despite being the peak lunch period.
When ordering, it's just best to stick to the basics (and your gut) instead of pandering to the costlier suggestions from the captain. Still despite it all, the crew here are very accommodative and understanding. We went for some famous house barbecued baby pork ribs, the signature fresh water prawn noodles, half a river patin fish steamed in superior soy dressing, and some veg dishes. Most of the portions opted were of medium portion in serving size. And the food was exquisite for an eatery of this standard.
If anything, the pricing although not exactly affordable for regular consumption was commensurate for the size of the portions served. We came away completely stuffed to the brim despite the lower than usual number of dishes ordered since it was lunch period. All in, this place is warmly recommended especially when you have a special occasion like an anniversary, gathering of mutual friends, or the birthday of someone special...
