I am loathe to pay for fine dining when the bulk of the cost is for the ambience and the use of super premium products just for the sake of “showing off”.
Conversely, happy to pay good money for great food. It’s not inexpensive to dine at Sushi Takumi (in Damansara Kim) but I do feel it’s good value.
The place is simple and small yet warm and inviting. Just 10 seats around the sushi bar. The ingredients are flown in fresh 3x a week from Japan. The cost of the ingredients are high due to it being air flown but the fresh taste of the food items pushes the dining experience to an absolutely top notch experience. This is where paying extra is well worth the money spent.
The skills and creativity of the chefs are impressive too. Despite many visits to Japan, there was a course of nori wrapped ice fish that’s then deep fried that I have never seen before. Exceptionally tasty too.
The sushi rice is pushed up a notch with the use of dark vinegar with much better complexity of flavours as compared to the normal vinegar used with most sushi rice preparations.
I could go on “ad infinitum” on the excellence of today’s lunch but I’ll summarise the experience by saying that whilst RM288++ for the lunch Omakase (almost twice that price for dinner) might not be for everyone, if you have a special occasion that is worth a splurge, this is the place to spend your hard earned money.
5 star lunch. ❤️
Some short notes for those new to high end (fresh air flown) sushi.
Please don’t ask for wasabi. The chef will have put the optimum amount between the food item and sushi rice if wasabi is appropriate. If wasabi is provided, please don’t dump it into the soy sauce. Add a little to one side of the sashimi slice and touch the soy sauce lightly on the other side of the sashimi. ginger (and the occasional pickled veg) are palate cleansers. Consume between sushi courses if provided. Do not add the ginger on top of the sushi and then chew on both together.
The chef will surely appreciate these kind accommodations as a respect for...
Read moreThis place is very unassuming on the outside but the food and environment inside is absolutely fantastic, contrary to the simple exterior. Although we did not try the omakase which seems to be what they do best, the a la carte dishes were still amazing. Keep in mind that most dishes are expensive and expect to pay around RM280 per person (the price of the lunch omakase), but the price was definitely worth the quality and quantity of the food. According to the manager, 90% of their ingredients are air flown from Japan. The ingredients were fresh and the raw fishes did not have a strong fishy smell or taste. To those who do not eat raw food, you can request for them to cook /grill or torch the raw fish for you. At the end of the meal, they also served complimentary miso soup (which was very fragrant) and ice cream (both the black sesame and yuzu ice creams were delicious). Their service was excellent and they partitioned the seating arrangement according to our booking at the counter so you can watch the sushi chefs prepare the food. The waiters, waitresses and the chefs were very friendly. The ambience is very comfortable, as the light wooden furniture made a good contrast between the dark flooring and walls. The lights were also placed well so that photos and your food were well illuminated. Seating is quite limited, so make sure to make reservations in advance. The only setback is finding a parking. Be prepared to park away and walk. Will definitely return again and...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived, we were greeted with professional and attentive service. The staff guided us to our seats, helped arrange our napkins, took our drink and set menu orders, and even remembered our names a small detail that really made the experience feel personal.
The sushi chef impressed us with his thoughtful presentation, explaining the origin and preparation method of each dish. He patiently answered all our questions, like why a certain cooking method was used or why the dishes were served in a particular order with genuine passion and care.
As for the food, the standout for me was definitely the ankimo the way it was prepared was truly special and easily one of the best I’ve ever had. The engawa nigiri was also done in a unique way rich but not greasy, unlike the usual aburi-style that just brings out the fat. Every dish was delicious, but I won’t spoil it too much😹😹 it’s best experienced yourself!
I had the Premium Omakase Set paired with a glass of yuzu umeshu. The whole experience came to around 700+ per person, and I’d say it was absolutely worth it. Highly recommended 🔥🔥🔥the ambiance is cozy, making it perfect for a date night or a small...
