The Ship, with the reputation of serving The Best Steak in Town, was well served under a unique decorative setting. The unique exterior of their restaurants resemble an almost life-size hull of a ship, and on stepping inside one will be impressed with the timely recreated likeness of a sea-going vessel. The starter, Garlic Bread. It’s crunchy and nicely toast….Then the Mushroom Soup, it’s creamy and full slices of button mushrooms..tasty actually but downsized is a bit salty.
To the main course, The Russian Chicken, the chef used chicken fillet and grilled, garnished with mushroom and red wine sauce, served with French fries and vegetables. It’s just a so so (average) dish.. The sauce is not that great to be frank. Next, the Black Mushroom Steak. The chef nicely grilled the fillet steak and garnished with black mushroom and gravy sauce and served with French fries and vegetables. Firstly, the sauce is bland and mushroom is bit hard. Not that appetizing…
The Black Pepper Steak, this is their specialty dish. Grilled fillet steak garnished with selected black pepper sauce, served with French fries and vegetables. Indeed, this dish is tangy and claimed by them. Steak is tender and juicy. Nice. Then the Charbroiled BBQ Spare Rib, patrons able to choose with or without chili. Bone-in Rib steak, marinated until bone and served with vegetables, corn on cob, baked potato and a bowl of salad. Let’s talk about the pros about this dish, yes, the dish is deliciously marinated and love the gravy/sauce, END. Subsequently the cons about this dish, the meat is tender but only on the top part. On the bottom part (rib), the meat is bloody raw (at first, didn’t realize until cut into the rib and the place was quite dark)…just look at the picture below, the bottom area; clearly you can see that the meat is raw. Oh, by the way, ordered medium well done for the rib. Then call the waiter and complained, the waiter was friendly and returned to kitchen to re-BBQ it.
Round 2, the dish returned to patron and the moment the knife cut into the rib area, surprise! It’s still Bloody raw! Called the Floor Captain, and believe it or not, he said “oh it’s normal to be raw especially near the bone area, because it’s quite hard to cook it.” Wow! Unbelievable, are you saying that patrons should expect this particular dish to be raw even thought patrons asking for well done or medium cook? Stupid explanation. Please think before you reply your customer!

Read moreWorst customer service experience. Rude waiter, unapologetic staff and attitude of blaming customers. I called the restaurant to make a reservation on Monday and the receiver took my reservation for Saturday evening but when I arrived 6 hours earlier on Saturday to drop a birthday cake, the waiter told me they don’t except reservations. I told them to check because I called and their staff accepted my reservation. The waiter proceed to check and found my reservation written on their log book which I promptly point it out that this is me and my phone number. Instead of apologising, told me in a dissatisfied tone and added warning that if I was late even by 1 minute will release my reservation. Then they took my cake in a Haagen Dazs box for storage. I was dumbfounded by the rudeness but I brush it off as not to spoil the occasion. Fast forward to 10 mins before the reservation time, the waiter call me on my mobile and with an almost threatening tone, if I'm late they will release booking. I said I’m in the car already in Damansara Uptown. It was an unnecessary call for I would not be a no-show because I had dropped the cake earlier. Also, if it was a reminder, I would expect a friendly tone. Anyway that phone has already spoilt part of my mood of celebration. Again I brushed it off. When I arrived, one would expect a restaurant with all tables occupied or a queue to get in. But nope. The restaurant had lots of empty tables at 6:30 pm and no queue at that time. Service was extremely slow. I am not exaggerating by saying despite pressing the call for service button you can wait for practically 10-15minutes for one to get any service. Cut short to when I asked the cake to be taken out, the waiter brought the cake and instead of apologising, he spoke reprimanded tone as to why I did not mention it was an ice-cream cake. So I now have a melted ice-cream cake. I replied to say it was in a Haagen Dazs box. And given the rude encounter I had in the afternoon when I delivered the cake one would think could this be done out of spite. Despite my friend and I replied how can you not know it was an ice-cream cake when it was in a Haagen Dazs box, no apology was ever given. To add salt to the wound when I asked for a knife to cut the cake, the waiter replies the cake did not come with a knife. I was dumbfounded a second time. Never have I encountered such rude and awful customer experience. To be honest, they don't even deserve the...
Read moreI recently visited The Ship western restaurant at Uptown Damansara with my company staff, totaling 9 people. Our group consisted of a mix of Chinese and Malay colleagues, creating a diverse atmosphere of working professionals. We opted for their set lunch, which included soup, main course, and dessert. While the pricing was reasonable and the food met our basic expectations, what truly shone was the impeccable service. The staff were attentive, and our food was served promptly, with ample waiters available to assist us. We dined around 12 noon and happened to be the restaurant's first customers of the day.
Furthermore, it's noteworthy that The Ship restaurant has admirably maintained its standards throughout the years. The authenticity of Colonial-Malaysian western food was evident in every aspect, from the restaurant design and crew uniforms to the tablecloths. The restaurant's signature charbroiled beef and sizzling dishes were a testament to its culinary legacy.
However, I couldn't help but hope for a revitalization of the restaurant's ambiance. A brighter and more modern look could enhance the overall dining experience. Additionally, a revamped menu incorporating innovative twists on their classic dishes, perhaps incorporating local flavors, could attract both loyal patrons and new customers alike. Despite this, The Ship remains a place where the rich tradition of Colonial-Malaysian cuisine continues to...
