First Visit—Mixed Impressions
Dropped by Yin’s Sourdough Bakery this morning. It was my first visit, and I was genuinely curious about their offerings—especially the sourdough breads. But I don’t recall seeing any, which was a little funny now that I think about it. We were greeted promptly, which I appreciated, but the service felt a bit rushed. As first-timers unfamiliar with the setup, we needed a moment to look around. Unfortunately, the cashier seemed eager to ring us up quickly, which made the interaction feel pressured rather than welcoming.
To be fair, maybe it was just a high-energy morning for her—but it did affect our experience. We weren’t blocking other customers and were only getting takeaway, so the rush felt unnecessary. My partner picked up on it too.
Now about the prices: I had expected something around RM40+, so the RM50+ total caught me by surprise. I noticed the cookie labeled RM18 was charged as RM20, and I couldn’t review the breakdown before paying—there was no item-by-item display, just a grand total. It left me wondering if I’d seen the price wrong, but I suppose I’ll start double-checking totals moving forward. It’s not something I usually have to do at bakeries.
Food-wise: Apple Cranberry Scone – RM6+. Close to RM7. Small and a bit dry for my taste. I’m a scone fan, but this one didn’t quite hit the mark. Sesame Parmesan Sourdough Cookie – Crunchy, with sesame up front and a delayed parmesan hit. I’d have loved more cheese in the flavor, but it was a unique concept nonetheless. Not sure it justified the RM20 price tag, though.
-Soft cookie RM7.55 per piece double chocolate. “It tasted more like cake than cookie. Prefer f@mous @mos those kinds”
Still haven’t tried the pound cakes yet, so can’t comment on those.
Final thoughts: The bakery concept is intriguing, and I walked in excited—but I left with mixed feelings. Service could be more welcoming, pricing more transparent, and the value-for-money better aligned with expectations. I’ve read other reviews that echo similar service concerns, so it seems I’m not alone in this.
Not sure if I’ll be back—but I’m glad I gave it a try. Once might be...
Read moreAbsolute disaster. And this was me commenting on my good mood day. Placed our order via the beepit QR for my dine in (the waitress asked me to do so) our coffee arrived alongside the receipt of my orders (I checked and they were in order).
Approximately 25 minutes later(at this point we noticed the table before us was already served and finished their meal) , we asked the waitress to check on our order with my receipt. She promptly checked in the kitchen and reappeared while mumbling something unintelligible. She was carrying an order for another table and dropped some of the scrambled egg on my table too, but that's fine. I assumed my order was underway and waited a couple more minutes.
My wife decided to check again with the same waitress on our meal and she said something like "I don't know" (eventhough she was just in the kitchen earlier) . At that point, we were getting really agitated and we asked another staff to check. This waiter had a greater sense of urgency and hurried back to the kitchen, but did not return for the next 3 minutes. At this point we realised that our orders must have been slipped. We then proceeded to request for a refund on the non existent food order. At this point the waiter hurried over and informed us that the order will take another 2 to 3 more minutes. But I have had enough of it and proceeded with my refund.
What could have been done better. I think the waitress should have had a sense of greater urgency. Or at least look like she gave a damn about our missing orders. Going in the kitchen and coming back with a "don't know" answer is not acceptable. Long food waits are acceptable if managed upfront or if the cafe was packed (but it was not).
So we left your cafe hangry. What a start...
Read moreMarch 21, 2021 ~Not a place to go to for their Sourdough anymore. Quality has dropped tremendously. Bad experience with their Cranberry, very disappointed and later again with 4 Raisin Sourdoughs!. Make a complain via their Instagram. Told me to collect the replacement, but what a shame; last Saturday went to collect and their worker named Camelia, told me off saying that i shouldnt post my complains and publicised it to the public but instead should just inform them personally! She said i should be happy that i got a replacement ! What ??? She amazed me man !Gosh, and furthermore, showed dissatisfaction by placing the bread angrily on the counter table until it plunged down the floor in front of my face! How unkind and insincere with such attitude !This happened on Sat 20th March @10.30am. (I paid my money to buy the bread and not for all this emotional drama elo! ) Then ignored me and left the bread behind counter and refused to give to me. Can you believe that! NO TQ i left without taking the replacement. Srsly, who need all this drama man! Worst, owner told me via Instagram message agreed with staff that i should not post my complains and publicised it. Srsly, what right does the owner has to tell me not to post? I have digestion problem and IBS, have been consuming Sourdough for my condition and have patronised them for a long time and i definitely can tell you their quality of Sourdough has dropped. So densed, still wet inside and no taste. Its just like eating a slab of heavy dough.. the after taste. This establishment is defintely very unprofessional, arrogant and self-absorbed with poor quality of SourDough now. Better spend your money elsewhere for a good...
