When you're in Kota Damansara long enough, you'd noticed shops come and go - like this relatively new Yuen Feng Kopitiam which had taken over Sushi-Ya that closed down during MCO 3.0.
When I finally made my way back to this area after so long, I noticed that this kopitiam had started serving the crowds. I like kopitiam because I can choose from many variety of foods. FYI, I have come here several times over the months of October, November and December to try the food here.
◾Uncle Soon Fried Rice - fans of fried rice rejoice! If you're living in KD and surrounding vicinity but doesn't like driving a the way to Subang, Uncle Soon has opened a branch here. From as low as RM7.50, one can enjoy the flavourful fried rice packed with the essential wok hei, and topped with the perfectly fried egg ozzing with the yolk as you poke it with fork. My plate cost me RM10 for prawns and char siew combo. I don't usually eat carb but it was well worth breaking rule for this. ◾Chee cheong fun - the sight of the freshly prepared ingredients made me greedy. Their sweet sauce was just nice without being too sweet; while their curry was creamy and delicious. I was torn between the two initially so I came twice to try different type of sauce. ◾char kuey teow - I will not compare it with the popular Penang Lang version here. On its own, the Kuey Teow was covered with all the flavours and charred taste due to the wok hei imparted to the noodle, coupled with good-sized prawns and cockles (a must!). Quite delicious I must say ◾lala bihun - again, I don't have to drive down to city centre to taste Lai Foong's famous dish. Instead, I can get it here in Yuen Feng. The soup was brimming with Hua Diao wines and the amount of lalas were quite generous too. Delicious stuff and I literally finished the whole bowl including the soup itsf. ◾pork noodle - with so many pork noodle operators in this area alone, it's a huge task to satisfy the palate of pork noodle lovers. I found this version considerably pleasant - soup was sweet without feeling thirsty afterwards, and the amount of pork was quite a lot for the money paid. ◾curry mee - tasty and delicious without much santan-laced curry broth, a testament that one needs not to put too much santan to achieve desired taste. It was right in between ◾roasted meat - loved the siew yuk but the char siew wasn't up to my liking.. it's just me. ◾Flat white - that's right! Espresso based coffee in a kopitiam? The stall has pasta and other English style breakfast too.. the flat white was quite good to be honest. East meets West in this kopitiam. ◾Regular Kopi and Teh - not the best but it would do to give me the much needed kick in the morning.
The reason to come here - Chee cheong fun, fried rice, lala bihun and many more. I have a new favourite...
Read more[VERY DISAPPOINTING] The Japanese food stall here (Daifuku-ya) has always been my go-to stall for this hawker centre for many years now. I often get cravings for it, and all my friends that I've brought here to eat at the Japanese stall has always loved it. We always ordered the popcorn chicken rice bowl and katsu rice bowl, it was delicious!
This time round however, the food has quite a significant drop in quality. The most noticeable difference was they changed the usual kewpie Japanese mayo topping to regular mayonnaise. I also noticed the chicken wasn't seasoned as well as before. Overall it was incredibly bland, and I couldn't even finish the whole thing.
This is a very sad blow for me to witness another one of my staple foods fall victim to "shrinkflation". At RM10.80 a bowl, it's very affordable. But quite honestly I would've been more than happy to pay RM15+ for them to just maintain their original recipe. Will likely not return again.
P.s. since I'm writing this, the char kuay Teow isn't...
