Lamb Shank Briyani = RM23.00 Cheese Naan = RM12.00 Teh C Special = RM4.50 Service Charge = RM3.50
One thing I noticed in Kuching is that there isn't much Indian Food available. In almost every Kopitiams that I've visited, I don't think i've seen any at all.
This place is highly raved in many Food Blogs and is admittedly one of the main reason I skipped the Food Festival on that day. It is Really So Good! Even on a Weekday, as you can see my Photo, this place is Packed to the Brim!
Their Most Famous Dish here is their Cheese Naan and My Goodness, just look at that Insane Cheese Pull!!
Can I even call this a Naan? This looks more like a Pizza! Just look at how thickly filled it is with Cheese! I don't know exactly what Cheeses it uses, Mozerella for sure due to the Pull, but there are probably a Mix of other Cheeses that i'm unfamiliar with because it has a very Savour and Delicious Salty Taste. Die die must try this Cheese Naan. Delicious!
The Main Course was a Huge Hunk of Lamb Shank thats Beautifully Soft and Tender with no Gaminess slathered with what tastes like a Very Savoury Mushroom Sauce.
The Amount of Basmati Rice here is alot and even for a Big Eater Like Me, I think this is probably meant for 2 people. Its very Soft and Fragrant and even comes with a Whole Hardboiled Egg hidden within.
The Teh C Special here is a Beautiful 3 Layer Tea and for this one, I purposely let it sit for 5 minutes and the Drink still Beautifully Maintained its Layers. One of the Layer was a Thick Layer of Gula Apong which made it abit too Sweet for Me. But otherwise, it was still overall a Delicious Drink.
This Whole Set I ordered was Seriously Alot of Food. Before I came here, I didn't expect it to be such Huge Portions! Completely defeated, I am ashamed to admit I wasnt able to finish everything and had to dapao. Hahaha their Insane Cheese Naan was the one that did me in.
Kudos to the Friendly Staffs and especially the Manager who was really attentive to Customers. Every once in awhile, she would come over and enquire in Perfect English if everything was ok and if I needed anything else. Even when I requested to dapao the Food, she did it Professionally with a Smile. This is Good Customer Service.
Absolutely Amazing Place with Really Amazing Food. With a total of RM43.00 (S$12.50) for this Huge Amount of Food, this is Absolutely Worth the Money.
Be Warned though, the Portions here are really Huge and if you're a Solo Traveller, you might want to take note, especially the Cheese Naan which is really more a Regular Sized Pizza than a Naan. So Much Cheese within.
Really Delicious, but be prepared for it to send you into a Happy Food Coma for sure!

Read moreBeing an ardent fan of Indian Cuisine, especially Briyani and Appam, i had to drop by Ceylonese Restaurant after reading the google reviews. What impressed me most was that they had ‘service ambassadors’ if i could call them that (2 ladies) who went around tables checking with patrons if they had any orders pending or if they had any feedback. They really did a great job! The serving staff are very attentive, enthusiastic and passionate about what they do, a top notch service ! The crust of the Cheese Naan (a signature dish) is delicately crispy and the melted cheese sumptuously rich. The curry dip complimented it well. For those who enjoy the local briyani may be disappointed with its taste as the ‘wrapped’ Briyani Lamb-shank is cooked Ceylonese style using different spices. So to enjoy this dish you must not make comparison to the local Northern Indian Briyani. The rice is flavourful and the lamb-shank meat was so tender and rich in taste that it simply came off the bone. The mutton curry was great, the lentils and peas in the Dhal tasted great. However the chili (similar to chili flakes) was sweet and hot. I later found out from the service ambassador that the Banana Leaf Briyani is cooked the Ceylonese style whereas the other Briyanis on the menu are similar to the Northern Indian style Briyani so do take note. The Appam or ‘Hoppers’ was a surprise as i expected it to be served with crisp golden edges and a doughy centre but instead there were 4 hoppers with only the crisp golden edge throughout ! The set came with 4 pieces, 2 had a sprinkling of honey, 1 had a cooked sunny side up egg in the middle that replaced the doughy centre and the 4th piece was simply plain. This was served with a special Dhal sauce, a sambal with caramelised onions and the usual coconut cream. There is no choice of having it sweet or savoury, you have to eat it as a savoury dish. Overall it was a different experience and you cannot compare this dish again with your usual local ‘appam’. The Masala Tea to me was a let down, though the Masala spice was strong, the tea and milk base was weak and ‘diluted’. The Service ambassador told me later that i could specify my preference when ordering by requesting for ‘kaw kaw’. How would one know this if there is no mention in the menu? I was also informed that one could customise the ‘heat level’ of the Briyani when ordering as they cater to the locals who generally do not consume too spicy food. Overall it was a good experience. I was told that a Singapore Branch will soon be opening sometime in February or March 2025 at Jurong. So Singaporeans get ready for a new gastronomic...
Read moreOne of Kuching’s Landmarks – Ceylonese Restaurant Sdn Bhd. If you haven’t been here, don’t claim you’ve truly explored Kuching’s food scene.
This restaurant is so well-known that you no longer need to rely on reviews to decide whether it’s worth trying. Almost everyone in Kuching, including visitors from outside, agrees on the quality of the food and the excellent service.
Rather than reading another food review, let me share a story.
I still remember five years ago, before Covid, when I was just a secondary school student. That was the first time I visited this restaurant with my older brothers. They told me it was a popular late-night hangout spot among university students. Back then, the restaurant wasn’t as big as it is now — just a small shop with a handful of staff.
At first, I thought it was just another ordinary Indian restaurant. But when the signature cheese naan and banana cheese were served, I was stunned. The owner never skimps on ingredients — everything tasted amazing. I kept wondering how they were even making a profit. Their famous drink, Teh Tarik, also deserves all the praise — with its thick foam and rich, creamy taste, it’s easily one of the best Teh Tariks in Kuching.
Since then, I’ve come back almost every month or two. The owner hasn’t changed at all — from afternoon until night, he’s always hands-on in the kitchen. The sports car parked outside is nothing to be jealous of; it’s a reflection of his dedication and belief in his craft. It’s said that he even gifted a car to one of his staff — a sign of how well he treats his team.
Now, five years later, I’m back again, and the taste is still as familiar as ever. Fast service, a warm-hearted owner, and friendly staff. The restaurant has expanded to two shop lots. As I prepare to face the realities of adult life, I’m comforted by the fact that this place still stands strong. I believe the legend of this restaurant will live on for many more...
