A. Inaccurate information:-||||1. The hotel sent me an email to confirm my reservation, stating its phone number and address at JALAN GREEN. ||||2. When we arrived at the address via Waze (and thereafter searched Google Maps), it was a residential area, and Hotel 48 was nowhere in sight. ||||3. Called the number - no one answered. ||||4. Only found the right address and phone number after searching on Agoda.com.||||5. The pictures are outdated. We had a peek into the bigger room with two queen-sized beds, and it was as nice as the pictures, but our room was not (room 1 had one queen-sized bed, and room 2 had one queen-sized bed and one single bed). ||||||B. Service||||There were two receptionists when we arrived. One was on the phone and didn't bother acknowledging us. The other was doing who knows what and didn't acknowledge us either. We waited for awhile before we were attended to. We let it go because it IS a budget hotel after all.||||||C. Amenities||||1. Cleanliness: The floor was quite clean. There were some stains on the bed, but nothing too gross and no bed bugs. Walls had stains and place looked worn out, but I guess you get what you pay for. ||||2. The bed is extremely comfortable. EXTREMELY comfortable. Really good for a good night's rest after a long day of walking around. ||||3. Water pressure was fantastic, although the shower head leaked and was difficult to turn on and off. We had to maneuver around a valve that was very difficult to turn. ||||4. Toilet bowl wasn't totally functional. Sometimes after flushing, the water would continue to run into the bowl instead of filling up the tank, resulting in a lot of noise and difficulty in flushing. Problem solved by turning off the water for the toilet bowl, but was inconvenient. ||||5. No toilet paper. We had to get our own from 711. They didn't sell toilet rolls, so we got a big pack of facial tissue. ||||6. They provide soap bars. Really small soap bars.||||7. Towels provided. ||||8. Aircon was working well. ||||9. Internet available. Speed was excellent.||||10. Lousy blur TV with hardly any interesting channels.||||||D. Location||||Strategic location. We walked most of the time. Plenty of 711's nearby. There is a kueh chap shop that sells the best kueh chap. There is also a Malay shop opposite the hotel. Anyways, Grab is really reliable and available in Kuching, so don't worry about getting around. There's a bistro nearby, so it can get noisy at night. It can also be dodgy at night if you're walking alone. Otherwise, it's alright. ||||||E. Conclusion||||It was alright, considering what we paid. Good for a few nights' stay just to sleep in after doing some sight-seeing, but definitely not for a family...
Read moreGood cheap hotel 5 minute walk from the waterfront in Kuching. The staff were friendly & helpful. It's a family environment with the family often having their meal in the reception area. The room was small but clean & comfortable. The bed was comfortable also. The bathroom is the usual for this type of hotel, with the shower & toilet together so when you shower everything in the bathroom gets wet. Annoying but expected. ||The hotel is in a nightclub area so on our first night, Saturday, there was a lot of noise. The music from the clubs was not too loud but there were gatherings of young men chatting loudly under the hotel windows until fairly late. Other nights were fine, no noise. I slept well. There is also a group of men who drink around the entrance of the hotel who were a little intimidating at first glance but were harmless & quite friendly after a couple of days.||There is free water from a dispenser in the common area. There is free Wi-Fi to the rooms. It's slow but it works if you're patient. There is a small fridge downstairs from which you can choose beer or other drinks for reasonable prices. There's no airport transfers but staff organised a taxi for us when we were leaving. They also organised a guide to take us out to the caves at Bau. He quoted high prices but we were able to bargain down substantially. ||We enjoyed the few days we spent at Hotel 48 &...
Read moreWent to Kuching for the Kuching Marathon 2014 event. ||||My criteria was to find a place to stay that is near to waterfront, walking distance to "Padang Merdeka" and within my tight budget.||||And Hotel 48 Room-For-Rent fulfil all those 3 criteria. The hotel have several room type and also dorm (RM12 nite/person).||||I had booked and stayed a family room, which provide 2 big double bed. The room is pretty basic though is is spacious, the facilities provided include lcd tv with only local channel on show (sorry no HBO, etc), bathroom with water heater, air-conditioning, desk, cupboard, clothes rack, free toiletries and towels. ||||Also be aware that the hotel do not have a lift. Location wise, the hotel location is very convenient. Waterfront is just 1-3 minutes walking distance. Near to medan pelita, carpenter street, Tua Pek Kong.||||A word of warning, it is a budget hotel. Do not book this place thinking that it is a boutique hotel. For budget traveller it is money well spent. The family room cost only RM126 p/nite||||Tips: They will only clean the room...
