The restaurant was fully booked. For around 90++ per person (7pax), service was slow. Children waited 35 mins and 45 mins for their 2 pizzas! We ordered Hawaiian pizza without ham and olives but it came with and the little one was so upset after such a long 45 minutes wait. (This I know for certain because his pizza arrived only after I finished my very chewy sirloin.)

We asked the staff for a steak recommendation - sadly, the sirloin was not a good cut. Our steak arrived together, but one sirloin was rather difficult to eat, very chewy 🙄 and cold. As staff were very busy, we couldn't send the sirloin back to be heated up for fear that the food won't be back while it's hot. The salad was really measly too. I could count the leaves 😄 it's only a handful.

We ordered Brandy to sip on WHILE waiting for food, but it came only AFTER we finished our food. And yes, we ordered it at the same time we ordered our food!

We waited about 25 mins for our food (which is fine for a VERY busy restaurant). We took about 20 minutes to eat our steak, and waited a further 15 minutes for our Brandy. A staff actually sent us the wrong drink while we were eating and we couldn't tell the difference. Therefore, total waiting time for the brandy was 15+25+15 minutes! By the way, that's 55 minutes for the uninitiated 😂 way too long to wait for a drink at an established restaurant like The Junk.

Whether The Junk was under staffed or over-booked, I really don't think I can go back to face the super slow drink servers and the cold medium rare sirloin with the measly amount of salad leaves at almost...

The Junk Restaurant in Kuching is truly a gem and one of the city’s must-visit dining spots. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm and inviting filled with rustic charm and a cozy, artistic vibe that makes the whole experience extra special. It’s a place that perfectly combines great food with a unique ambience.

The dishes here are outstanding. I was especially impressed with their Duck Mango Salad light, refreshing, and bursting with flavors. The combination of tender duck with sweet mango and a zesty dressing was simply unforgettable. Another highlight was the Lamb Shank, which was cooked to perfection. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, rich in flavor, and paired wonderfully with the sides. Both dishes were a perfect showcase of the chef’s skill and creativity.

On top of that, the portions are generous, the presentation is beautiful, and you can tell that a lot of attention goes into every detail. Service was also excellent, the staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening.

Overall, The Junk is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience. Whether you’re a local or a visitor in Kuching, it’s definitely worth coming here for a memorable meal. Highly recommended and I’ll certainly...

Standard of food dropped drastically. We used to love the Crispy lamb and baked prawn here. Not sure if the chef has changed or what, the Crispy lamb has became tasteless, and the baked prawn was no longer tasty before as well. Worst dish served was their sirloin steak, not only did it taste as hard as rock and oily like three layer pork, they served it late, claimed that kitchen was busy even though we arrived First as in the first table who got there, and we witnessed the same dish being sent to another table which came later. Attitude was rotten we've asked about our dish for 3 times and no one seemed to care. When I walked down to talk to another waiter they all just stared at us and not giving any response. When we paid and gave them feedbacks on food. All we got was oh ya ka? Chef tukar la, That's all. Chef tukar or x doesn't matter to me, shouldn't the restaurant have your own recipe and get your staffs trained to maintain standard? Huge disappointment after so many...

I've visited this place once, many years back, and upon returning to Kuching, decided to pay a visit once more to see if the food and ambience was as good as before. It definitely didn't disappoint! The interiors are clean, but really dim and with an eclectic mix of furnishings and fittings that make it both unique and slightly creepy, which adds to overall experience. Even the little corridor off to the side of the restaurant was an otherworldly spot to have a look around. The service staff was prompt, welcoming, and really efficient as we got a table and the menus fast. He gave some recommendations, we placed our orders, and waited for the dishes to arrive. The pizza and pasta were delicious and filling, so we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Parking here is really difficult though, so be prepared to make a few rounds before you can find a slightly-precarious roadside spot.
