Denis' Diner — Restaurant in Sarawak

I’ve been meaning to try out this place for a long time now! This is my first time here and I gotta say that this place is the best. The atmosphere and the environment is great. Feels like I’m dining in an American diner, but without the long table and stool where most diners in America have. The vibes here is more like an 50s American diner with a bunch of vinyl records and the oldies music is playing too. Don’t called it a western restaurant, it’s already like American diner by now. Came here with my family. Great portion size, especially the American breakfast and reasonable price. The quality is great, compared to Hi-bread and bread toast. I love their hash brown, this is something new to me compared to ordinary hash brown found in supermarket, McDonald’s hi-bread and any other breakfast spot. The hash brown here is actually grilled rather than fried, like what most American diners do. Initially, I was planning to order mac and cheese, but due to the portion size, I wasn’t able to. This is the best and most heartfelt meal I've ever had—the kind that can only be made by someone who truly cooks with passion. Without genuine dedication, it's impossible to create food this delicious.

Personally, I'm not a fan of chicken breast—I usually only go for chicken thighs or drumsticks. But what the chef (or owner) cooked was incredibly juicy, and the sauce was the best I’ve ever tasted—perfectly sweet without being overwhelming. Everything was just right.

I had a brief chat with the chef (or owner), and he's such a humble person. I'm really happy I got to enjoy such an amazing Western meal before leaving Kuching.

Though unsuspecting from an outside glance, stepping into Denis’ old school diner is like walking into a time capsule, igniting all the senses! From the initial delicious smell of the open kitchen, the throwback western tunes, the memorabilia adorning the walls, and the friendliness in which you’re greeted with - it’s just the full package!! We’ve visited several times during our stay in Kuching. Denis himself and his lovely counterpart serve up a delectable breakfast or brunch with the sweetest smile on their faces (: we especially enjoyed the pancakes and beef bacon topped off by a lovely chat with Denis on both occasions. All in all, it’s just a true gem of a diner! A must visit...
