It is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants. Most of the time, it is necessary to book a table so you can see it is a favourite with many. Like the rustic city, Kuching, this restaurant serves authentic Chinese Cuisines. Being a Teochiew (belonging to one of the Chinese dialect-tribes) I love soup! The Heritage has a unique soup. It is a blend of very finely shredded cabbage, spinach and (I think whatever is seasonal). The thick, creamy, nutritious and easy to slub soup will make a host/hostess a favourite with the older generation guests. Name? Unfortunately, I don’t know its name but try describing it to the HEAD WAITRESS. You will raise her eyebrows and she will love you for knowing this secret dish. You cannot go wrong when you order the steam-fish, or green vegetable topped with fresh scallops. The crabmeat-in-the-shell is stingily apportioned to one per guest at the round table (it will not be a Chinese Restaurant if it is not round!). Oh yes, the chef would have been informed of the number of guests. It is seldom available but if you are one of the lucky few or a revered customer, you can order and receive one of the best desserts in the house (in my opinion, the whole of Kuching), a closely kept trade secret of again stingily apportioned one each per guest at the table - floppy meringue coated with pink sugar crystals. You may have realised by now, my bias for The Heritage Chinese Restaurant. Each meal is satisfactory, ever pleasing for the palate and i would leave the diner feeling I was fed like a Chinese Queen! You must try out The Heritage but do allow a seasoned connoisseur to...
Read moreWe made a reservation a day in advance, and everything went smoothly. For the meal, we tried the mango duck minced duck meat beautifully layered on a slice of mango and topped with crispy roasted skin. I loved it, though those not fond of mayo might not enjoy it as much. We also ordered the sweet and sour pork ribs, which were absolutely delicious, and the fish maw clear broth, which was surprisingly flavorful. The mantou with braised pork was fairly ordinary, but the mixed vegetable combo, topped with almond nut crumbs, was fresh and delightful. Overall, it was a simple yet satisfying family dinner for five, and it was very affordable. The placed is always full house but if you are lucky, you might still find tables if walk in...
Read moreJust came back from dinner. Arrived around 8:30pm for a late dinner. Place was crowded, but mostly younger and less sophisticated crowd.
Ordered fish maw soup, midin with garlic, mixed veg with almond flakes, clay pot tofu and another tofu dish.
The fish maw soup was extremely salty, so were the other dishes. The fish used not really fresh. Midin OK. Mixed veg the almond flakes were okay, but some of the vegetables didn't taste great (either not well cooked or not well washed)
Didn't finish both tofu dishes.
Only reason why giving it 2 stars instead if 1 is because the price is cheap. So guess the crowd comes for the price rather...
