Kuala Sungai (Ah Yu) Restaurant – Over 15 Years of Great Seafood
I’ve been patronizing Kuala Sungai (Ah Yu) Restaurant for more than 15 years, back when it was run by the husband-and-wife team, the husband cooking and the wife handling the cashier. Now, the second generation has taken over, but the father is still in the kitchen, ensuring the same great taste over the years.
My must-order dishes here: ✅ Blanched Prawn (Pak Cheok) – Only the freshest prawns can be prepared this way. It’s served with fresh pickled onion, chili, and dried prawn—an unbeatable combination! ✅ Fried Squid – Always a big portion, and we sometimes encore another round because it’s that good. I’ve yet to find better fried squid anywhere else! A must-try. ✅ Kam Heong Crab – This is my all-time favorite and something I never skip when dining here.
This time, live mantis prawn was available, so I ordered it salt & pepper style—it was delicious and highly recommended!
They have also introduced a new menu with an extensive selection of dishes. Steamed fish, fried vegetables, and other seafood dishes are all good too, but my top three remain non-negotiable must-orders.

Read moreImpressed with the heart warming and friendly approach by their daughter in-law, nice and pretty lady who also helped us with taking order. She even refuse to collect the bottle of mineral water when she knew we want to get it for medication. Maybe it just a few cent but her little gesture do make us want to come back again.
Baby Kailan - one of our veg dishes happen to look more like cabbage, texture also taste like it. Which it claim as their local baby kailan. 🤷🏻♀️
Salted baked crab with their homemade green sauce is delicious, a little sour but also spicy, goes pretty well with the dish.
Sweet & Sour Meat (they use chicken) - cooked in strip different from the regular we had in SG.

Firstly we were not greeted when we arrived at the restaurant. We waited like for 10mins until someone came. Tables were too few although the place was spacious. We almost left until one table became vacant. When we sat down to order, the girl who took our order kept telling this fish don’t have, that dish don’t have.
