Bun Viet is just not that good and here's the lowdown:
Pho Lacked the good old beefy taste that is expected of this famous Vietnamese dish. You know when you keep slurping up the broth after the noodles are gone? It did not happen here. There wasn't even a piece of lime to add some zests to the broth. The beef slices were cooked through and a bit tough. As for the side dish of vege, only a strand of basil and some taugeh came together with the pho. The taugeh came pre-cooked. A first for me as elsewhere, this is always served raw. I'm not complaining though as I do not eat raw taugeh.
Paper rice roll with prawn It did have that refreshing taste of the greens but the wrap was uneven at certain places where some parts of it were dry. The accompanying peanut sauce was fine, not too sweet and paired up nicely with the rolls. Even though it was a prawn roll, it was one prawn cut in half and then sectioned off into two rolls. Not much prawn taste to it as a result.
Crispy fried chicken wings Not sure if this is a Vietnamese dish but let me know if it is. This is the only dish that I enjoyed. The fried chicken was overlaid with a sweet sauce and there is a rich kunyit taste to it. I happen to like fried fish and fried chicken marinated with kunyit so yes I am biased.
Total bill for 3 dishes: RM41.10
If my memory served me right this exact place used to be occupied by an Ipoh themed eatery that started off well but quickly went downhill overtime. To be fair to this now Vietnamese restaurant, the menu is extensive and there might be something worthwhile buried within it. But the pho is not putting this place on the right path as this noodle dish will inadvertently be the most ordered dish...
Read moreMy family and I had lovely experience here. We came on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm. Car parking was easily available. We ordered A1, A2 and A8 noodle selections, E2 banh mi plus an ala carte fries(not in menu) plus H7, a dessert dish (something colorful made of tapioca). A1 and A2 are both beef broth noodle but they are not of the same flavour. The former is flat noodle with original pho soup, the latter was mian xian with orangy prawn flavoured soup. Both were very comforting. A8 is chicken noodle. Its broth is special and delicious. All 3 noodle soups are each served with a plate of basil leaves with quick blanched bean sprouts and accompanied with some homemade chili pastes. We thoroughly enjoyed their E2 banh mi. Crispy with each bite and the fillings were very tasty. Even my little picky eater was so...
Read moreHad a quick lunch with the wifey before we headed out of town. Service was fast and food was delicious! Not as authentic as you would taste on the streets of Saigon. I found the flavors slightly localized. i.e. bean sprouts were blanched when served and should be fresh and crisp, had to ask for lime for my Pho Bo, no crushed peanuts in the chili sauce. But the flavors were incredible and the service efficient. We had:
Banh Mi: 5 ⭐ the best Vietnamese pork baguette sandwich in Puchong. Incredibly tasty and super fresh baguette.
Pho Bo 4.5⭐ incredible tasting broth although not as light as I like it and authentic rice noodles gave the perfect slurp. More spearmint would have been better
Vietnamese Iced Coffee: 4⭐ good blend of coffee and slight cocoa overtones....
