Big fan of KGB, as they are one of the best burger joints around. I do generally take my international guests whenever they visit Malaysia, and generally get excellent feedback from them.
However, it’s very sad to see that their reputation maybe tarnished or destroyed by the mentality of the staff and management at one of their latest branch at Empire Subang. I generally go to the Bangsar and TTDI branches, but thought last night to take some visiting relatives to the Empire subang branch as it was close to Shah Alam and they were staying there. I was on the way from PJ and there was traffic on the Federal around 9pm. I got my sister to call them around 9.10pm to ask them the last order time. First two attempts there was no answer, on the third attempt they they did answer and said that the last order time had passed. I was shocked to hear this coz i was wondering how could a F&B outlet in a mall have its last order 45-50 mins before closing time. I had also a relative waiting there from 9.05pm and he said there was no crowd, which also got me thinking why they didnt answer my first 2 calls.
Anyways i proceeded to the restaurant and we reached around 9.30pm where I got my sister to go and make the order firsr. They only allowed us to place orders for Burgers, but nothing else.
Dissapointed by this, I decided to cancel the plan of having dinner there, and proceeded to call the Taman Tun branch and they said we could order up to 15 mins before closing time. So we proceeded there and just made it about 10 mins before the last order time and enjoyed our dinner there.
Strongly urge the management of KGB to train or replace the staff at the Empire branch before reputational...
Read moreI was initially glad that KGB had reached Subang Jaya, having previously eaten at the MV and TTDI outlets.
On my first attempted visit on a public holiday at 8pm, we were told they were “out of beef and chicken patties” and that they were waiting for stock.
Second visit on a Sunday night: we were advised to go with grilled patties because seared meant “the patties are pressed” which somehow implied they’d be “less juicy”. I usually have the animal style at MV, and it’s tasty.
I tried 3 different grilled beef burgers, can’t be bothered to name them, but they were all dry and heavily reliant on sauce for moisture. The burger buns looked too soft, and overall looked and tasted like a poor excuse for a gourmet burger. I only ate half of mine.
The service was appallingly underwhelming; staff can barely speak a proper sentence in English, including naming the burger that’s being presented in an intelligible way—which was also hindered by the fact the guy had his own mouth stuffed so full with something he was eating, he had to cover his mouth while telling us what the burger he served us was.
I wondered if he had eaten some of our fries.
The fries were good though. We had asked for one without salt, but it tasted like the rest had double the amount of salt (and flavourants) than the first one did. In any case, the fries were the best part of the meal.
If you’re new to KGB, go to the Mid Valley one. Everything about this outlet...
Read moreWas here recently and this is probably the worst KGB outlet in terms of service. Upon reaching the counter and after placing my order, I was told that a certain item on the menu is sold out even though the the menu on display didn't indicate otherwise. When I pointed that out, the staff behind the counter just grinned w.o offering an apology. I wasn't sure what was so funny about it. The communication between floor and kitchen crew was audible to the point that I was able to hear their exchanges. I ordered a veggie wrap/lowcarb version of my burger and they seemed quite unsure how to prepare the order when I've had the same lowcarb burger several times at their TTDI and Bangsar outlets. Waiting time was too long and none of the floor crew assured me of my order even when I was standing throughout the waiting period. Instead, there were loud enough exchanges along the lines of, "how long more will it take? Lama lagi ke veggie wrap?" when my order was finally ready, a brown paper bag was handed to me and that was end of the whole transaction. No "thank you/please come again/apologies for the wait" to an obviously annoyed customer....
