Main Square — Restaurant in Birgu

This eatery is the local Labour Party Club catering outlet offering bar and food service. The location in the town’s historic main square is a magnificent old building but inside is very kitschy and cheaply degraded - the owners are probably unaware of the gem they are situated in and are not educated enough to maximize the potential they have. There is absolutely no finesse in the decor, much less in the service. Food is ok - you get what you pay for. It suits the purpose of a meeting place for political supporters having a drink and a snack, but it can’t do more than that. I had a pepperoni pizza - very unimaginative with a thick, hard and bland base but edible. House wine in jugs and faux fire extinguishers, to add to the kitsch experience, was ok and not memorable. This place is always packed with locals, so I knew it would be good. The food here took a while to arrive, but it was worth the wait. The homemade ravioli with chicken was to DIE for, with a creamy sauce that tasted slightly of curry. The fish and chips were equally amazing, with hot, fresh chips. Ordered a main square blue burger after almost 2 hours of waiting the burger arrived. On the menu it stated that the burger is home made, when i received the burger it was instantly apparent that this is not a home made burger but rather a frozen burger.
