My partner and I came here on our first night in Malta, we were looking for somewhere authentic that served some local cuisine. After reading the menu and being intrigued by the service they offered I enquired about a table and they suggested we came in earlier as there was a large booking and they wanted us to have the full experience, this was not a problem. Upon arrival we were greeted and the host explained how it worked; there is a set menu for the starter, with an option of 3 out of 6 mains, and a set dessert. The pate was amazing, as were the homemade dips. We choose the tuna, which was cooked beautifully and melted in your mouth, the rabbit which didn't taste gam-ey, nor was it tough and the beef with pork mince for the main. Everything was locally sourced and made in the kitchen. The staff were very attentive, knowledgeable and helpful if we had any questions. After enquiring about some local drinks we were even given a shot of Rummiena (pomegranate liqueur) on the house. We conversed with the owner who spoke to us about his time in England, and moving to the island, discussed other things we could do, even joked about coming back for our final dinner on the island to try the other dishes we hadn't...which we did and made a reservation, however it was unfortunate that the town had a black out. I hope the power came back on soon after! It was certainly a unique way of dining, and one we were disappointed we couldn't repeat whilst we were there, however this was not Tal-Petut's fault. If you are in the area I would definitely recommend calling and making a reservation.

What an incredible dinner we had at Tal-Petut! It was the kind of experience at a restaurant you don’t often get to be a part of. We didn’t go looking for a restaurant of this type, more happened upon it, but we couldn’t have been happier. The evening we visited there was no menu, more of a “set menu” situation with shared plates that came out with no rush whatsoever. The host (Patrick) was extremely friendly and accommodating upon arrival and explained to us the concept of fresh locally grown produce and ingredients and their slightly unusually approach of no menus. He immediately gave the impression that there was no point worrying about menus however as he was going to take care of us perfectly. From food, to wine to service and atmosphere everything was curated to perfection. The prices were extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity for both wine and food. I can’t thank everyone working enough. Every dish, dip, element and drop was brilliant and I know I’d go back again very soon. Do not hesitate to dine here.

Just Wow, the Classic and the best Restaurant I have visited in my lifetime. We were 6 people from office, and this place was selected by my local friend and colleague. This place requires reservation as mandatory, and the walk from main road to this restaurant is splendid, with lot of old building with beautiful art. We reached the restaurant around 8 pm, the welcome to the restaurant and way to the table was great, the server made sure we were comfortable. The service was just impeccable. I am a vegetarian and updated the same to the service guy, he made sure I had the best food. The server is explains in detail about the dishes of the day, they don't have printed menu, he explains step by step, everything is prepared fresh. This restaurant was the only one in while Malta where I got to eat authentic Maltese Food. Would recommend this hotel to each and everyone around the world to visit it atleast once. Met the owner at last and was so humble, Thank you for the great evening 😊

This was the single greatest dining experience I’ve ever had! 🙌 I’ve eaten at quite a few places in my home country and in the countries I’ve visited, but this tops them all. The food was amazing. Brilliant, varied flavours, huge portions (coming from someone who eats a LOT), and our dietary requirements (vegetarian and vegan) were no problem at all. The wonderful staff guide you effortlessly through the whole experience. They asked us straight away if there were any dietary restrictions, and made it clear to us that no restriction was an issue. Seems they have something for absolutely everyone! Excellent wine selection too. Their service was incredible. Lovely people who truly care about what they are doing and the experience they are offering. I’ve read someone else has already said this, but truly, we felt like royalty! Tal-Petut is on the more expensive side, but truly you get what you pay for! Undisputed 5-stars. Would recommend to anyone and everyone. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Tal Petut is probably one oft the best and loveliest restaurants on Malta. Rather small and hidden in Birgu, it is a real hidden treasure. Donald and his team do a great job in making you feel welcome and comfortable, which interacts very well with the overall approach of this restaurant: Natural products, traditional cuisine, and no microwaves or flavor enhancers. Just the pure taste of the ingredients and the various herbs, partly from own production. The food is delicious - and you can taste a difference as compared to other restaurants. And they also offer local wines. The prices were fair: we paid 30€/person for a menu including starters and dessert, and 22€ for a bottle of Maltese wine. (Feb 2018) The restaurant can be reached from Valletta easily by Bus (ca. 25min). If you want to taste traditional Maltese cuisine and look for a very relaxing and lovely evening (and possibly a romantic walk through Birgu afterwards :)), you should visit Tal Petut.

What a beautiful experience. As you enter in Birgu you can immediately feel surrounded by history and cultural heritage. But it’s when you walk in Tal-Petut - located in a suggestive narrow backstreet - that you start to feel at home if you are a food enthusiast. Awesome vibes and great, charming people that serve you traditional, genuine food. It’ll not be a conventional dinner: there’s no fixed menu because they propose you what’s fresh depending on season and availability. Amazing, right? Prices are a bit over the average in Malta, but you’ll definitely not be disappointed if you are interested in living an authentic Maltese food experience. My favourite thing has been the antipasti platter, in which I found great flavours and surprising combinations. 100% recommended.
