6 similar bad experiences in almost one month? Just like in previous reviews, we also have a negative experience with the dutymanager of who I hope is not the owner. When we checked in he promised to arrange a table for the 2 of us in 5 to 10 minutes. We fully understand this when it is busy and don't have a reservation. In the meantime, people registered after us were clearly given priority. Less understanding, however, for a dutymanager who comes to tell us that we should go for a walk for another 20 minutes so that three people who presented themselves after us (and did not make a reservation) were given a table again. Dear dutymanager, be careful with prejudices and discrimination. Especially when the 'tourists' also speak Maltese. Make sure you don't speak bad of your staff in front of customers. After more than 25 years on the island, I have never had a dutymanager who calls his customers 'a.. hole' when those same customers calmly indicate that he should no longer keep a table available because we do not appreciate the lack of honesty. If the response is that we should not make a problem, then there is clearly a lack of professionalism and insight, no? Are you proud of calling customers `a.. holes` when you are pointed to a lack of respect? Because we are not the only ones with this experience, it is certainly important to share it and we can only hope some selfreflection leads to insights. We were pleasantly surprised that the service at the Mobydick restaurant appears to be of a higher class and that there are still reasons to return to Xlendi for diner. I hope you share the video you took without permission so that people gets a good idea. It surely will be against the gdpr and we will be glad to set a complaint.

I enjoy going to Pirate's Galley every time I'm in Xlendi or have friends & family visiting. Jacob and his team always strive to offer the best service so that you feel completely comfortable and enjoy the wonderful, delicious food in a very loving pirate atmosphere right by the sea. I've seen the owners bring home fresh fish and calamari straight after they've been caught, just so the kitchen can whip up the most delicious dishes to pamper your taste buds. My must try and insider tip is definitely every dish with tuna (tuna tartare, tuna carpaccio, tuna steak...) & the calamari (the sauce is extra tasty), but every dish that leaves the kitchen looks simply fantastic. Pirate's Galley is definitely a must visit when you are in Gozo! You just can't be too thin-skinned when you see that the place is full and Jacob and his crew are doing their best to serve every table as quickly as possible. After all you're dining among pirates!! ;D

Really enjoyed this restaurant. Me and my group had our lunch there for each of of the four days we stayed in Gozo. I was particularly happy with the fish and sea fruits that were served at the restaurant. I tried tuna stakes, red snapper, scorpion fish, grupper and sea bream as well as calamari, mussels and octopus. Everything in my opinion was fresh, tasty and well prepared. Before ordering the staff presented the catch of the day so we can choose which particular fish we want. The staff was very friendly, they helped us with filleting the grilled fish. Something that seemed very nice to me was the fresh tuna salad - considering that I mostly associate tuna salad with canned tuna, this was a really nice surprise indeed - see attached picture.

We were both badly ill within hours of eating at this restaurant, leaving the rest of our holiday spoilt. We did not enjoy another meal for nearly a week afterwards. The doctor diagnosed food poisoning.

Ok maybe it was just bad luck? We shared a bruschetta (we were presented with but hadn't ordered) and a large fish chosen from the basket offered.

Maybe I could forgive/excuse this episode as a one off? But the service and attitude we have received since however is simply not forgivable.

Our first 3 emails sent during our illness (to inform / complain) were simply ignored, only when my partner left a review did they engage at all.

Rather than apologise, make a promise to improve, or dare I say it offer to refund, they first insisted on identification to prove we actually ate there! Then comes a convoluted story that their "staff also ate our food (literally our food) and were ok, so it couldn't be the restaurant could it"....!! (As if the practice of eating client paid food is even ok at any level? Or proves anything re hygiene, even if it was indeed a true story).

Then came a brief offer of a refund, soon retracted and contingent on taking the post down. Oh dear.

This "main course" was wonderfully spiced up with threats of reporting me for cyber crime, affiliation and defamation.

Full unedited WhatsApp transcript available for inspection or I will happily publish should the "management team" dispute this account of events.

Anyway, don't take my word for it, the beauty of reviews... just filter on the lowest reviews here and you will quickly find the genuine tourist experiences (not the friendly "local guides" leaving positive reviews) sharing very similar accounts to ours .... unfriendly, aggressive and unprofessional.

We will not be back and luckily for other travellers to Xlendi, there are plenty of better choices close-by

Worst food poisoning of my life followed by a pretty abject customer...

If we got to keep the first waiter who greeted us and took our drink order, or the one who brought the food, this review might have gotten 1 or 2 more stars. After we sat down, been explained what was not on the menu and ordered our drinks, another waiter appeared and started explaining the menu. We politely said that we had been explained and were waiting for our drinks and that the previous waiter would send a colleague to tell us about their fish selection. This waiter then brought the presentation and I said which fish I wanted while my company changed their minds and wanted meat. The waiter then tried to insist that I have another fish. When I didn't change my mind, we could tell from his face that he was not happy. So now the waiter ignored us for the next 45 minutes until the food was served by a cute girl. And then when we were done and asked for the bill he said we could pay at the bar when we left. So we got up and went with him to the cash register, where he then disappeared into a back room. The sweet girl who was making drinks and pouring beer tried to get him to come and take the payment, he said she could do it. Well she had her hands full, then he comes out and just walks right past us and to another table. We stood there for a while, so long that other guests started to react too, and I said loudly to my party who was going to pay that they were NOT allowed to give a tip because this was ridiculous. Then the first waiter appeared and took the payment, but they had problems with the bank terminal (which I now after reading the reviews here is nonsense) so we paid in cash. Not only that, my fish cost 10€ more on the receipt than what is stated on the...
