We had been searching for a lively and authentic Maltese street for our Pre wedding night drinks in August 2025 and been recommended various options, one of which being capitol city bar. Having visited a few places, we knew when we first saw this bar, this was exactly what we were looking for! The location was perfect in the heart of Valetta city on lively side street, which vibrant lighting which was perfect for an evening event. Kenneth and Kevin, were, friendly, engaging and very flexible in providing options during our initial planning visits earlier in the year and help to give us an idea of how the evening would look. It’s always a challenge to try and coordinate when in different countries, however the communication was great, utilising WhatsApp and email to coordinate the plan, food, drinks, set-up etc. The night itself was even better than we imagined and Kevin and entire team that evening were fantastic in setting up the area, providing personalised signs and extra street seating for our guests to spread out. Although we had a lot more guests than originally anticipated Kevin and the team we so accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure the food and drinks kept following to maintain the wonderful service to our guests. There was even a musician that night (not hired by us 😉) but added an extra level of atmosphere to our already delighted and energetic guests! Both we and our guests absolutely loved the entire evening and cannot thank Kenneth, Kevin, and entire team at Capitol City Bar enough for the superb service delivered and making it such a memorable and enjoyable experience for us. We would without a doubt 100% recommend Capitol City bar for any event, or even just evening food and drinks.

Capitol City Bar is a solid choice for a night out in Valletta. Its biggest selling point is undoubtedly the location: situated right on vibrant Merchant Street, the outdoor seating provides an incredible atmosphere for people-watching and soaking up the historic city buzz. It’s the perfect spot to start or end an evening. The food menu is very good and offers high-quality, casual dining we found the dishes, including their renowned tapas and mains, flavourful and well-executed, and their cocktail selection is generous and well-mixed, especially during happy hour. However, the main area for improvement lies in the service. While the staff were friendly and polite when attending to us, the pace of service was often slow and disjointed.

I happened to come across this place my first night and kept coming back every night I was in Valletta. It’s a really nice bar with fabulously friendly and attentive staff and really good live music (which is definitely not too loud, see other review ) - personally I recommend the guy who seems to do Thursdays! And I totally disagree that it’s expensive (see other review) - I was always amazed how little I was charged.

I have been here two times, first time was really good , loved it , very nice waitress. She’s the reason I came there the second time. Now the second time made me feel a uncomfortable, don’t get me wrong, the food and drinks are really good but this time my waitress made me feel uncomfortable. Kevin was his name .I’m an engaged woman that had my ring on the whole night and he had the attitude to start flirting with me and staring at me . He initiated a small talk where he asked me where I’m from and what am I doing here, etc. ( some shameless questions I do t even wanna talk about ) I told him I moved here with my fiance to what he laughed to . I didn’t mind that . But through out the night I constantly saw him staring at me , and little talks like “ are you feeling good yet? “ as he passed by my table , felt unnecessary. Another weird moment that stuck with me , was when I went to use the restroom , he followed me right away , down to the restroom. After a few drink I asked my fiancé to join , and when he arrived the waitress started making jokes about him ( my fiance) being “ my brother “ even tho when he said that, I clearly showed my ring and said no he’s my finace and he still kept on joking about us being siblings . At this point my man asked the waitress to leave and we got served by the second waitress that was there. The second guy was nice and understanding as we told about how weird and shameless that first guy was . Would definitely return there but would have to hope that he’s not working...

Ordered virgin colada but got corona beer, asked to change it twice but the waiter said he heard it as corona and cannot change it because its opened. :) :) :) sounds like I purposely order the wrong drink to make your life difficult :) :) do you see the price of virgin colada is higher than the beer? if you change it i will be paying more :) :) and to avoid wrong order from anyone's side, you dont open the beer before the customer sees it :) :) by the way I ordered non alcohol drink because i cant take alcohol :) :)

Update to the original post and owner

It was me personally came to the bar and orded Virgin Colada, if the staff heard it wrong, you dont put it as my mistake. Or please explain to me why I order alcohol drink when on the day I cant take alcohol, why I didnt change my order immediate after I realise I ordered wrong drink, and had to wait until you serve it? and why if i dont mind corona i insist on changing it twice? and that the other drink I ordered at the same time was also non alcohol drink. At the end my friends had to take the beer because we could not remove it from the bill, not because we wanted it. If the staff at the time can handle it better, even just to explain there was a misunderstanding I am sorry this is unfortunately opened and we couldnt take it back. I would have accepted it and order another virgin colada. instead your staff handled it in a way that it turned...
