When I stepped into Menza, I was immediately transported back in time to a beloved retro era. The name and interior design of the restaurant perfectly capture the essence of a traditional Pest style dining experience. It was evident that the owners had put great thought into creating a place that combines the charm of a grand café with the quality service of a high-class restaurant. Upon being seated, I was greeted by Mika, the waiter for the evening. From the moment he introduced himself, it was clear that I was in good hands. Mika's attentiveness and professionalism were exceptional throughout our dining experience. He expertly guided me through the menu, providing insightful recommendations and answering all my touristy questions with a smile. Mika's knowledge of Hungarian cuisine and his passion for the food truly enhanced my dining experience. I started the evening with a perfect cocktail, enjoying the warm ambiance and the bustling streets of Budapest. The refreshing drink complemented the picturesque surroundings, setting the tone for a delightful meal to come. As I delved into the menu, I was spoiled for choice with a wide range of delicious Hungarian dishes. I ordered the Mezes-mustáros mangalicakaraj petrezselymes burgonyával… which is a Honey-mustard mangalica pork chop (Hungarian sheep, pig, look it up!) with parsley potatoes and grilled vegetables 😋. The dish was prepared with utmost care and attention to detail. The flavors were authentic, and the presentation was both visually appealing and appetizing. It was evident that the chefs at Menza take great pride in showcasing the rich culinary heritage of Hungary. Throughout the evening, Mika continued to provide impeccable service. He ensured that my glass was never empty and checked on me regularly, striking the perfect balance between attentiveness and giving me space to enjoy the meal and people watching. Overall, my visit to Menza was a delightful journey through time, filled with wonderful flavors and exceptional service. The combination of a charming retro ambiance, delicious Hungarian cuisine, and the outstanding service provided by Mika made the evening truly memorable. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Budapest, I highly recommend visiting Menza to experience a traditional Pest style dining experience with a grand café-restaurant quality service.

I went to this restaurant twice in 2 days - once for dinner and then again for lunch, need I say more??? I'm on a family vacation in Budapest, and it's one of our favorites of all the restaurants we've been to on our 18 day Europe trip. The beef gloush was really tasty and wasn't too salty. I also had the beef tartare as an appetizer and was glad I didn't have to share it with anyone because I really enjoyed it! I had the duck liver for dinner and it was really good! It was well seared on the top, lightly salted, and mixed with the sauce and mashed potatoes and I was in heaven! My husband had the traditional Hungarian beef stew, and he liked it. But our experience was so good, we came back for more, and had lunch there a day later. I ordered the duck breast and my partner ordered a duck burger. Both were great. My partner enjoyed his burger. The duck breast was a little tough (I ordered medium), but the risotto was so good, it made up for the slight toughness of the duck breast. I still prefer the duck liver! But in terms of food quality and atmosphere, I would recommend this place. It was nice and service was prompt.

The food was good, I did enjoy that. But my score is based on the service I received. From the moment I step at the entrance was wrong. There was a young good looking female host long dark hair. I asked her if she had a table for one. She was the most unfriendly hostess I have ever encounter, not greeting, not welcoming, she literally rolled her eyes on me, she was very unpleasant. Funny they have a big sign that says “please wait to be seated and SMILE” the smile part should be facing the hostess to remind her to be friendly with the costumers because that is what she is getting paid for. I hold my thoughts, I just wanted to eat and then I get my waiter, another lost case, no manners and completely fretful. When he brought my beer. He dropped the glass on the table with such bad attitude. He did not placed the glass as a good waiter would do, he dropped it making a big noise in the table. No eye contact or words were said. He just walked away after that. The food I ordered was brought by different waiters they all were polite and placed the plate at the table in a correct way. Respecting the client. My waiter meanwhile never ever came back to my table. Another young waiter dark hair was extremely nice. He checked on me more than once, he offered me dessert, so he upsale (great job) and even gave me his suggestion saying the New York cheesecake was his favorite. And I asked for that. After finished my meal I tried to call my waiter’s attention. He ignored several times. He saw I was done never approached my table. Then the rude hostess came from inside wearing a different shirt I called her. She made bad faces again, I asked if she could please ask my waiter for my bill. Barely she said yes and she went back to her podium to chat with the blond hostess colleague ignoring my request completely. I tried to call my waiter again, nothing. I did no exist for them seems like. I could walk away without paying maybe. They couldn’t care less. Finally the nice young waiter came to the patio and I called him. promptly he approached my table. I asked for the bill and just then “my waiter” showed up to my table just to drop the check in the same way he did with the beer, no words were said. The nice waiter at the end took the payment because my waiter never came back after dropping the bill. Even when the food was good I would never go back to that place ever, I tried all those restaurants in that venue there are about 6 of them. Everyone was nice and respectful. I have never felt so unwelcome in a place. And those people work there because they need the money “we” costumers bring in. Such a shame. The hostess with that horrible attitude should be back of the house together with the waiter cleaning dishes. Poor service send costumers to the competition! they clearly don’t understand the business neither the main duty of their jobs. Thanks to the nice boy who helped me and made my stay less miserable. This score is not for him he deserves more than 5 stars. But not the restaurant for not training the people that have there to ensure costumers spend their money there not in the restaurant across the street. In one my pics I think u can spot the 2 waiters the good and the terrible one.

I recently dined at Menza Étterem és Kávézó, and I must say that the food was absolutely fantastic. The restaurant offers a delightful selection of dishes, with the standout being the duck. The flavors were rich and perfectly balanced, and the presentation was visually appealing. The menu showcases a creative fusion of Hungarian and international cuisine, and the quality of the ingredients used was evident in every bite. However, I was disappointed with the service at Menza Étterem és Kávézó. Despite the restaurant being relatively empty, the staff seemed inattentive and uninterested in providing a satisfactory dining experience. I noticed a lack of professionalism and a general apathy towards customer service. It was disheartening to see that even with the restaurant being far from busy, they made customers wait unnecessarily, giving the impression of high demand. Despite the subpar service, the delicious food at Menza Étterem és Kávézó makes it worth a visit, especially if you have a craving for delectable duck dishes. The ambiance of the restaurant is trendy and stylish, with a retro touch that adds charm to the dining experience. The decor and atmosphere create a lively and vibrant setting, perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or loved ones. Overall, Menza Étterem és Kávézó is a mixed bag. While the food, particularly the duck, is outstanding, the service leaves much to be desired. If you can overlook the lackluster service and focus on the culinary delights, you're sure to have a memorable dining experience at this establishment.

We searched for restaurants in Budapest that serves Hungarian dishes with vegetarian options. We saw the good reviews of this restaurant and decided to go. We came and were seated outside, near a flowerpot that caused one or two ants to climb to our table. We ordered the food(goulash, duck breast with risotto, ravioli and more dishes). The waitress made sure that the goulash and the ravioli are starters. We got the starters about 10-15 min after ordering it. The goulash was absolutely great but not too big(it did came with generous amounts of bread in my opinion). We expected to get our main dishes in no more than 10-15(which makes sense because there was enough time to make the dishes while we ate the starters) we waited for 30 min and than decided to ask other waiter why is it taking so long( by this time our waitress disappeared) and he told us it’s on the way, we waited for 10 more minutes and than asked other waitress and after 5 min we finally got our food. The duck breas with risotto was tasty, the duck wasn’t very good, was too done(in my opinion) but the risotto was the best I have had. When we got the check they added the 12% service fee to our bill, which is fine when it’s deserved, but we got horrible service, at least they agreed to remove the service fee( in my opinion they should’ve removed it from the beginning knowing that we waited for too long) Overall the food is very good and I hope that my experience is rare.
